Elvis Costello Fan Forum Tribute CD

Post by BlueChair »

So... we've tried this before. Of our current crop of contributors, any takers to recording an EC cover or two for the project? If we get enough people involved I'd be happy to revive this idea.

I burned everything that was sent to me onto a CD, which is somewhere but I've moved twice since abandoning this project back in 2003 or so. If you still have the recording, you can resend it to me... otherwise I'm sure I'll find it somewhere.

I abandoned Copyright And All That Jazz, because my friends said I sounded like an elitist.

Yes re the last reply..

Again, this seems like a nice idea for many, but some of us did this on vinyl and cassette years ago and hid free copies under cowpats every few years - none has been reported as discovered.

We could write new songs for DPAM as he has not outputted enough about clowns.

Good luck in your admirable ventures.

Neil Young (whom I do not buy but respect) is issuing all of his old stuff to combat .mp3 appreciaters on Blu-Ray - perhaps we could anticipate the next carrier-media (I think that it will be people singing/playing from memory = little atomic Costellos).

Since we're not planning to sell anything in doing this, I don't think there would be any issues. But maybe one of the lawyers (are there any?) on the board could clarify things for us.

For sure, if it's not for public distribution but a limited number to a defined group, there's no violation.

I'm not a lawyer, but I can assure you that EC has no problem with fan tribute CDs, because he told me so himself. In fact, he told me he "loved" them.

I'm interested in contributing to this project. I've contributed songs to EC fan tribute CDs in the past - hell, I even organised a fan tribute CD a few years ago, Poor Fractured Elvis: http://web.archive.org/web/200309111022 ... _songs.htm

We really need to finish this - Blue - do you still have my track?
I would be interested in doing another one for this aswell - how many more tracks do we need? With the wonderous help of the internets collaborations are pretty easy too if several people want to get together to produce a track. Id definintely like to see it finished.

That's another idea - collecting a "supergroup" of sorts of the people on the board and having some of the tracks feature a handful of us.

Too bad we haven't got a millionaire or two on hand to fund flights, accommodation and studio time so that said supergroup could meet to cut it live! I'm volunteering my services as drummer in the eventuality of that (as long as we don't have to do 'Lipstick Vogue' with 100% accuracy!), but no means of recording myself for the online sessions!

Yes I have. Could set the drums up in the house and thwack, but wouldn't I need a good mic to avoid distortion hell?

You can get a USB mic called a Snowball for about $100 US - its what I use and its great, probably not ideal for drums but get it in the right place and it would pick up the room pretty well I think.

Once I buy a few new toys for my MacBook I am happy to get this going again. Hang on to those covers for now, and if anybody else wants to pitch in - think about it!
