Thanks for posting the links. I keep hoping his Pop Quiz show will turn up again.

This is new to me, and something of a mystery: Elvis playing "Pads, Paws & Claws" solo on an acoustic guitar sitting in a window.

The poster - Trygve Østbye says in the comments that this clip is from "Norwegian television, program called Rock '89. They did a special too, called Elvis Costello: in his own eyes"

This programme does not feature anywhere on the Wiki or the EC Homepage. Indeed the Gigography does not have Elvis in Norway at any time in 1989. He did play in Sweden (twice) and at the Roskilde Festival (in Denmark). The only clue we have to his whereabouts in the clip is the large sign outside the window saying H.Olesen. Google suggests this is a furrier based in Oslo, whose address seems to coincide with the Grand Hotel on Karl Johans Gate in the main square in front of the Storting (Parliament) building. So my guess would be that Elvis made a short visit to Oslo with a stay at the Grand Hotel where the TV crew caught up with him. Has anyone any information on "Elvis Costello:In his own eyes"?

Brilliant - it is indeed part of the same show, which it turns out is "Elvis Costello: In His Own Eyes" (Or "Elvis Costello:I egne øyne" in Norwegian). It is archived on the NRK TV website here: https://tv.nrk.no/serie/i-egne-oeyne/19 ... /avspiller and plays for me (in the UK). Hopefully it will work outside Europe too.

So the next question that arises, is the origins of the performance that is included in the Norwegian show at 24 mins, 30 seconds. It is a version of "Clubland" performed by EC, The Attractions, Afrodiziak and the TKO Horns.

The programme looks a lot like Tyne Tees TV's "The Tube", and a caption dates it to 1983. EC and the A's only appearance on "The Tube" that year was on November 4th - EC Wiki. The setlist lists four songs, none of them "Clubland". The performances of those four songs were included on the 2005 DVD "The Right Spectacle".

So is "Clubland" from "Elvis Costello:I egne øyne" an outtake from The Tube broadcast on November 4, 1983, or does it come from elsewhere?

I’m pretty sure Clubland was played at the 1984 The Tube recording as the credits rolled- I’ll check my complete DVD collection - (just starting on 1996 by the way) and see what I’ve got listed !

Surely he's miming on the Swop Shop video, isn't he ?
Elvis playing bass instead of Bruce is like VG doing Swan Lake instead of Nureyev!

The only comparison I’ve had to Nureyev is my looks - unfortunately I think they meant the horse

In January 1999 Elvis and Burt Bacharach appeared at the 26th Annual Music Awards in Los Angeles. This American event was a largely American affair with a few exceptions (Boy George, Eric Clapton, Celine Dion).

The whole show in moderate quality (given it was 21 years ago), is available on YouTube (since 2017) and Elvis and Burt's performance of ''Toledo'' is ready to view here:
