O’Hara’s set will go Over Easy with Rudds

Sometimes it’s good to be a record collector who plays in a popular local band. Especially when you can pull one of your obscure heroes out of the woodwork.

The Rudds’ show at Johnny D’s tonight will be notable on two fronts: It will be the last with guitarist Brett Rosenberg, who is moving to Nashville. And it will feature an opening set by Jack O’Hara, the singer/guitarist of the early ’70s band Eggs Over Easy.

Though largely forgotten, Eggs Over Easy is credited with launching the pub-rock movement, which would spawn Graham Parker, Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello.



Rudds bassist and producer Tony Goddess became an Eggs fan last year when a friend turned him on to a reissue CD. He discovered that O’Hara was living in New York, doing sound and occasionally playing at B.B. King’s club.
