DVD reissues from Rhino

Post by sweetest punch »

From listserv:
http://www.musictap.net/

There are 2 DVDs reissues coming from the Elvis Costello
camp that includes Live: A Case For Song (1997),
and The Juliet Letters (1993)(with The Brodsky Quartet).
Both DVDs are planned for October 24 from Rhino.

To make these reissues interesting for the fan, they should at least contain some bonustracks or surround sound. I hope EC is still on speaking terms with Rhino (after he took away his first 11 albums to UMG), so they can make it worthwile.

Live: A Case For Song and The Juliet Letters were both VHS video-releases. I suppose that the reissues are video DVD's.

Later: A case For Song contains the "Later with Jools Holland special" from 1996. There were more songs played than appeared on the VHS video. So these songs could easily be the bonustracks.

The Juliet Letters VHS video contains EC&BQ who playback to the songs from The Juliet Letters. There was also a live concert filmed in Dublin. The VHS video had a small excerpt from this performance. This performance could be the ideal bonusmaterial.

They're straight reissues without any bonus material.

These aren't available to pre-order from amazon.co.uk yet. Is that because it's slower than the US one, or because they are being released later in the UK?

Do you know if these DVD's will be released in Europe (in the PAL format)?

I have both of these on VHS and just don't see a compelling reason to upgrade to DVD. By the time I decide to watch either one again, the DVD format will probably be replaced with newer technology and the Juliet Letters video will be updated to include actual live performances of the songs, rather than the lip-synched "videos" that make up the majority of the running time.

Just can't get excited about these.

Now that's fucking brilliant ! I ordered both DVD's a couple of days ago and what I see today on Amazon UK for both items is this :

We are currently unable to offer this title. It may be out of stock with the studio. If you would like to purchase this title we recommend that you occasionally check this page to see if it has become available.

:x :x

Anyone understands what it's all about ?

In the US the DVDs are still planned, they've just been delayed. I don't think a new date has been announced.

I suspect the same is true in the UK, but I don't know for certain.
