EC related Random Thoughts
Every time I hear I Hope You're Happy Now, I get a black and white picture of Ringo on the Ed Sullivan show.
Like me, the "g" is silent.

I laughed when I saw that for the first time because before I ever saw the video, during that line I always pictured him doing that.verbal gymnastics wrote:I always laugh in the video to Everyday I Write The Book when he does the line "Everyday I I write the book - ooh". Elvis nods his head at a slight angle. It just makes me laugh.
it's classic

LOL every time elvis did a gig on the TIM festival he suddenly bent at a 90 degree angle and kinda crouched so that his face was almost parallel to the guitar itself! Everytime I think about him now, I picture elvis with his bright pink glam-rock electric guitar and his face slightly above it doing some MAD riff (as seen in "I want you"). I think he did this technique in Club Date: Memphis. The sheer speed makes it just so funny, I think it should become as much of his trademark as "Pump It Up" or amphetamines...
Preacher was a talkin' there's a sermon he gave,
He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved,
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it's you who must keep it satisfied

Back to the thread, having read one of Spooky's recent posts, I have to also wonder if Elvis ever wears any other footwear these days apart from the spangly boots.
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?

I agree with that one. I don't like the random grunts and whoops of the Fairfield Four. Ruins a good song...
My random thought at the mo: when Davey Farragher sings backing vocals for EC, does he actually sing whole words? It always sounds like he's singing half formed syllables that have a passing resemblance to words...

If there were a king of fools than I would wear that crown/And you can all die laughing/Because I'll wear it proudly.

Was the music of Cole Porter recognized in its time for what it was...timeless, unique, and widely appealing? Or did the appeal of his music grow with time. I wonder if an Elvis analogy can be made, as I think his catalog will be 'discovered' only after he has faded and begins wandering the Jersey (not "New") coast in sockless penny loafers and a metal detector. Amazingly, 30 years later, people in my age group refrain from even sampling an EC recording because they consider him a Buddy Holly novelty knock-off, made possible only by the likes of the Johnny Rotten, Ian Dury, and Joe Strummer. Nevermind how wrong the impression is, and how far from reality it deviates. I just wonder if time will remove that stigma and his music will receive the Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, George Gerswhin status it deserves.
Or does it?
Or does it?

Agreed, great song...verbal gymnastics wrote:
I have been playing Elvis' version of Sleeper's What Do I Do Now? over and over again
First time I heard it, I knew nothing about it, but when he sang the line...
'Was it when I said,
I wanted to have children..'
...I immediately thought, this song was written by (or for) a woman....
Am I a sexist, or does the fact that I was right get me off the hook..?
