Stalking Pete Thomas

Post by And No Coffee Table »

I was rather startled to walk past Pete Thomas at Amoeba Music in Hollywood this morning. Unable to think of anything brilliant to say, I thought I'd leave him alone. But when I saw him browsing the Elvis Costello CDs, I couldn't resist approaching him.

He seemed happy to chat for a few minutes. It turned out he was looking to see if they had My Flame Burns Blue yet. (He's heard "bits of it" but not the whole CD.) He said he expects about 20 shows for the River in Reverse tour this summer, but they'll be mostly festival-type gigs. Allen Toussaint is, in Pete's opinion, "fucking amazing."

I also asked him about the Wendy James demos (he said Elvis hasn't put them out "because he can't find them," but I'm pretty sure he was joking) and recording the actual album with Wendy James. One thing I didn't know was that when he signed on to do that album, he thought Clive Langer would be producing it, but Wendy James hired a different producer at the last minute.

How cool is that!!! Hope one of those festivals is within driving distance. These are bound to be great performances!

Thanks for stalking and posting this!

Good work staying conscious long enough to approach him! I'd have passed out or burst into flames or something.
It's a radiation vibe I'm groovin' on

No, I've talked to him briefly a few times after concerts.

He probably has to pay to play with Elvis too. Actually Pete would have played the "Do you know who I am?" card, demanded free CDs and kicked up a fuss because he's like that

Pete would definitely have been joking about Elvis losing the Wendy James stuff but if not ask him to get Elvis to give me a call. I can probably help him with a couple of tracks he's missing from previous sessions too
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?

I spotted Pete again at the same store this morning. He was with his daughter Tennessee. I managed to leave them alone this time.

(extract)

tennessee bought a tiny white bunny rabbit she named mr. lambykins. he died 2 days later, on the morning of my birthday, which is notoriously cursed. nothing like waking up to the smell of death in the morning.

- you could have sympathised with her - not that would have been really freaky.
