I saw him in Chelea yesterday at Balduccis. He was picking up some sushi.

A Day at the Angelika

The Angelika Theater is a New York landmark. Ever since it's opening in the late 80's, it’s been a place for film savvy city folk to gather, view and analyze the best-of-the-best in independent film. Not only is the Angelika a melting pot that emulates hipster-smarty-pants-chic, but it’s also a hot destination for New York establishment. Of all things to get these people to leave their above-59th street-brownstones and come downtown to play with the little people, the Angelika is it. My Sunday was spent observing this city phenom, and it began with brunch.

I headed down to Soho to meet my favorite movie-buddy at Jerry’s Diner (yes, it’s where Elizabeth Shue’s character in Cocktail waited tables). When we sat down, my friend began gushing about The Queen, the flick he had just seen at the Angelika that morning. Movie aside – which was apparently phenomenal – he told me he had seen Ed Koch in the bathroom line. Of course I wasn’t too astounded by this sighting since everyone sees Ed Koch in New York…he’s everywhere.

As we were sipping the last of our coffee, we both look up to see that we had been sharing the dining space with Hank Azaria. He was quite coifed in his hair gel and blazer. We watched as he totally “worked itâ€

Yes, that was Elvis Costello -- in town with the Rolling Stones -- spied checking out the great Impressionist collection at the Art Institute of Chicago the other day.

The Grapes Will Protect Me

I went to Whole Foods on the corner of West 24th and 7th Avenue to do a little light grocery shopping. A little of this and little of that, you know. I was about to leave when I noticed a very pregnant Diana Krall and Elvis Costello walk into the fruit section. I went towards the stack of grapes that were directly in front of them. How can I get this picture? I must document this! I went to a school dance as Elvis Costello once! So I acted as if I was texting somebody, took the picture quickly and walked away angry, responding to some disturbing text I just received (ha!).

What if Mr. Costello remembers the angry young man, standing behind the grapes, who received such a disturbing text that he quickly marched out of the fruit section. This would trouble him so that he would wind up writing a song about it titled, "The Grapes Couldn't Protect Him."

Check out his next album, I bet it'll be there. Mark my word!

Love that! :D :D

The Whole Foods produce section is like food porn - insanely expensive porn.

I went to the one on Santa Monica in LA with my sister and my jaw nearly hit the floor when I got a look at the prices. But what quality!

Somrthing like this has opened on Dublin's Wicklow St, I only make it as far as the smoothie stand inside the door. Loads and loads of different fruits with all kinds of foodies loitering around conjuring up long excrutiatingly boring tales of about meals they prepared when they go to the dinner party from hell. Nice smoothies all the same.

No hardcore celebrity sightings still. However, today Andy Samburg came and stood outside looking at the menu for a good ten minutes..... And then later that afternoon Elvis Costello and Diana Krall (holding their kid) walked by. It was almost too tempting to run outside and shout up the street that I'm named after one of his songs. But I didn't.

Maybe one of the twins is shy and anti-social and just wants to stay in and suck his thumb .

I know how he feels.

And still no pictures of the bambinos. Are they that ugly? Cursed with mega-noses? Spitters? Colicky howlers?

I had a cool celebrity sighting today at West 21st Street and Fifth Avenue: Elvis Costello and his wife Diane Krall, each pushing a single baby stroller carrying their newborn twins. Bundled up in the monotone layers that are such a hallmark of New York street life, they blended in perfectly. My eyes lit onto Elvis first, as he's, well, unmistakable and then I caught sight of Ms Krall at his left. They stared back at me--perhaps because my eyes were as big as saucers when I first caught sight of them--and then we simply passed each other on the street. The unwritten handbook says New Yorkers don't gawk or harass celebrities; you give a slight nod of detached acknowledgment if you're a fan. And I did--I'm a fan of both their work (I also now have Costello's "Everyday I Write the Book" stuck in my head).

Bowie contrasted the paprazzi-hassling he gets if in London with the NY live and let live attitude, but rather than a detached nod, he gets the occasional 'Yo Bowie!' as he walks to the boxing gym, etc. I was all set to call this out last Sept, but sadly the moment never came... 'Yo Costello!' doesn't sound quite right, does it? Maybe 'Yo MacManus!' is better.

Elvis remarked that people now refer to him as EC so if the opportunity comes up I think a "Yo! EC!" would be more appropriate.

I'll try it next time I see him

A black Suburban? C'mon Elvis, think of the planet. What's next? A Hummer?

Yikes! Nearly a grand for one of those contraptions. I just tied 'em down with some sturdy twine! ;-)

Is the Orbit the new Bugaboo?

By Danielle, CBB Publisher

by CBB Gear/Fashion correspondent Patty of Baby Chic 101

Is the Orbit the new Bugaboo? We'll have to see. But so far, Orbit Baby Stroller Systems are beginning to pop up all over Hollywood. Maggie Gyllenhaal has one for her daughter Ramona and was seen pushing it last month. Heidi Klum took her new son Johan out for a stroll in the park in a mocha version not long after his birth. Elvis Costello and Diana Krall decided to skip a double stroller for their twin sons and buy two Orbits. And Gwen Stefani has one too.

The very modern looking stroller/car seat combo is sold together, with a toddler seat and different color cushions sold separately. Orbit is also introducing a bassinet and a bouncer next month. The bouncer allows the bassinet, car seat, and the toddler seat to connect to the top of it. A toddler car seat that will also fit on the stroller, an industry first, is planned for later this year.

One of the key features of the Orbit is its 360 degree rotation, allowing your child to face forward, backward or sideways. It also makes putting the car seat in the car a lot easier as you can put it in facing you and then turn it to the back for the car ride.

That explains the need for those re-re-re-issues and Visa ads...

"Last Friday I was shopping with my teenaged son in the Whole Foods store in the Park Royal Mall in West Vancouver. It was about 11 in the morning. When we entered, I noticed a guy who looked like Elvis Costello: big horn-rim glasses, pointy shoes, a black rain coat. Then it hit me: it WAS Elvis Costello. [...] I noticed that his shopping cart was full of organic baby food. "

Elvis Spotted in Beverly Hills

Exactly 30 years to the day since Elvis Presley croaked on the crapper, Elvis Costello (no relation) was spotted enjoying lunch at Barney's in Beverly Hills. He didn't seem remorseful at all as he munched on his salad, played with his twins and strolled around the store. While he borrowed the king's name, he certainly has not shared Presley's lifestyle, and SP is proud to report Costello made a trip to the bathroom without any complications. Hooray for two-ply!
