Quote EC lyrics by verse game

Post by bambooneedle »

If the results of the lyrics quiz are any indication, the members of this forum would be able to go alright in this new game. In case people care for their score again I've made up a few rules so I can tally progress every 5 pages:

-TWO points for completing a verse, or chorus, or bridge, or section (in the order they appear). If there's no easily discernible structure or if you can only quote the next line, it's ONE point.

-The given song has to be from a standard EC album. To make it easier, Kojak Variety and For The Stars are not to be included.

-DOUBLE and TRIPLE posts are allowed (posting 2 or 3 in a row), but no more than that. Points are awarded the same way if you type two or three sections of the particular song in the one post, but it just means that meanwhile someone could beat you to it.

-If you notice a misquote/mistake, you get ONE point for a correction, and they get ONE point if they were on the right track. If they weren't, you get the TWO points. This would apply to changing choruses etc. You'd still get points for different recorded lines that you remember and quote.

-If EC repeats a line at any point, you can quote it just the once.

-If it's 12 hours or more since the last quote post, you can abort the current song and start another one. If EC just keeps repeating at the end of a song you can start a new song, but points can still be got for quoting that rare and unique line in the fade-off everyone else missed.

-If you start off a song that gets aborted, you LOSE any points you would have got from that song, while everyone else gets DOUBLE the points they would have got for their parts of the uncompleted song.

Easy enough?

To start:

It's Time

The party's over
your time is up
You've had your last pointless teardrop
washed down in that broken coffee cup
this magic moment concludes when that cigarette ends
did you get what you wanted?
well I suppose that depends

Well I suppose that depends

If you go, if you go
Where passion is squandered and money is spent
It's time, it's time
It's time, it's time
It's time, it's time, it's time
You must see it's time that you went
You must see it's time that you went

Our brief acquaintance,
Was such a mistake,
Now it seems more like a sentence,
Or something you always have to fake,
This magic moment,
concludes when they turn out the lights,
It's not the days when you leave me,
But all I fear are the nights

(same chorus)

And then repeat of 'If you go...'?

Drank too much with dinner to go for this, or at least trying to fathom the offside-rule belittling rules. And I'm still traumatised by the experience of the test.

And then repeat of 'If you go...'?
The chorus doesn't repeat at that point.

I know the single didn't include this bit but the album version changes to:

you told the same joke to me too many times
i wish that someone would hit it
just before you reach just before you reach just before you reach
the punchline...

Doesn't anyone know the last verse, should I add extra points for it? :)

The party's over
Time we broke up
It always seemed like a bad dream
One where I finally woke up
This magic moment concluding our mutual fate
But if you do have to leave me
Who will I have left to hate?
Who will I have left to hate?

chorus again

I'm loving this game idea. I wish I came earlier to get involved on It's Time.

I'll start one. Clean Money:

Payday's coming, clean money clean money (and we wash it away, and we wash it away)
Payday's coming, clean money clean money (and we wash it away, and we wash it away)

That's what I want to do
I want to spend it on you.

I've never looked up the lyrics to this, so I could make some foolish mis-hearing errors here, but...

Check on a checkmate,
Grass on a classmate,
So beautiful and fortunate,
he hates to love you love to hate,

he can fix you for good 'cos he is the neighbourhood,
you can get money for blood,
blood money for doing no good,

and you won't take my love for tender (x3)

I think it's "checking on a checkmate, grassing on a classmate," but I can't be certain. Still, nice job. The next part:

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

Payday's coming, clean money clean money (and we wash it away, and we wash it away)
Payday's coming, clean money clean money (and we wash it away, and we wash it away)

That's what I want to do
I want to spend it on you.

Who stole your blunder? I believe it's who stole your thunder, though, as with most EC misheard lyrics, I almost like the wrong version better...

And it's Geiger counter, not doggy counter. A Geiger counter measures radiation.

Miss BA is correct. It's both thunder and Geiger counter.

The rest of the song:

And they won't take my love for tender (ad infinitum).

They say I'm running out of time
Oh you don't have to be lucky
It is easier than trying,

Sorry. Actually, it's:

upon the rails
Would ruin any man who moved too soon.
All except the one who seems to know more than he tells
