Elvis & the gold medal of rock

Saw Elvis Costello at Montreux Jazz festival last Thursday. Enjoyed it hugely.
Someone came on the stage at the end and awarded him "the gold medal of rock". It looked to me like a jim'l fix it badge. Now then now then...

Short review of this concert by Olivier Horner that appeared in Le Temps (Swiss newspaper published in Geneva), on 9 July 2005:

Or in "English" via Google Translate:

Elvis Costello, the trentenary know-how and chameleon of a songwriter

Happened by the graceful rumour surrounding the shuddering vocals of Antony

Happened by the graceful rumour surrounding the shaking vocals of Antony & The Johnsons, we were actually somewhat deprived of the rock tricks of Elvis Costello & The Imposters. But the beginnings of the Englishman in the Stravinsky auditorium proved to be as classy as rage, successively precious and cynical. Attacking his turn of the owner by the nostalgic "London's Brilliant Parade" extracted from the album Brutal Youth, the singer and guitarist underlines in his way the explosive events. The sarcastic songwriter, with its "Impostors" in charge of all the pop-country-folk-blues-punk and reggae excursions on the stripped musical lands, unleashes its know-how, soon to be about thirty years old.

And it tells, in filigree of the political, social and cultural history having enamelled the last sixty years, its personal and sentimental trajectory. "New Amsterdam", a girl met in 1986 and disappointments stirring her glasses of glasses not yet orange like Thursday night in Montreux."

So there you are, a "pop-country-folk-blues-punk and reggae" show - something for everyone.
