LET'S PREPARE FOR THE TASTE

Post by LessThanZero »

It's in less than a month, and it's a free Elvis concert.
We need to prepare, strategize, get good seats and eats, and party like it's the old message board.

We need to organize.

What's the best Hotel to stay at? (Location, expense?)

When should we get there on th 6th to sit in the stands instead of that terrible expansive field?

Should we meet somewhere? when? where? why? and WHO?

are you excited??

You can meet with us Pip! I'm going with 3 or 4 people, and they are not EC fans, so it would be nice to sit by you and other fans at the show!

CBart, I should probably get hotel reservations soon right? Which Hotel would you recommend travel guide?? :D

ok guys and girls. we probably need to get there really early on the 6th. we DONT want tot end up on the lawn. Would 7 am be too early for anybody. I saw the Replacements from the seats in 92 and I remember getting there early and there was already a big line. I just can't remember what time I got there, maybe 10 am or earlier.

Can you guys give me a suggested price range of hotels? I will start looking hard later this afternoon (Tuesday). It's kind of pricey downtown, but let me see what the Best Western costs. There is also a real rat hotel called the Ohio and there is a dumpy little Howard Johnsons, but hey, it's just for sleeping right?

As for a meeting place, let's decide where your'e all staying first. I'm getting psyched for this.

I'm flying into Indianapolis on the Saturday night to meet up with my girlfriend and I'm staying at her place in Fort Wayne that night. Then we're doing the 3 1/2 hour drive early Sunday morning to Chicago for the show. I really don't know if we'd be able to make it as early as 7, though :(

But she's never seen Elvis before so she'll obviously want to be able to see. Ahhhh

I would love to sit with all you guys.

I have to figure out what Im doing, but part of it hinges on whether or not I get Saturday off work. If not, I may take an overnight bus trip and get there in the wee hours of the morning. I mean like, 5:30am . . .

In that case I wouldnt even need a hotel. But I wont know for like 2 more weeks.

This Howard Johnsons I'm thinking of might work. I'm gonna go run by there tommorrow, check out rates, and availability, and also ask to see a room. I'll report back tommorrow afternoon.

We can see if somehow we can hold a place in line for the late comers, subduedly of course. We'll figure all the details out as time passes.

Craig and all,

On Ontario, just east of Michigan Avenue, there are a Red Roof Inn and a Marriott Fairfield Inn, within a block of each other. I think Fairfields are supposed to be the least expensive in the Marriott "family" of hotels, and the Red Roof used to be a Motel 6.

I would like to join the party but it is looking like I will be out of town. If that changes I will post here and try to connect with you.

Those Fairfields and Red Roof's sound like the best idea so far. I will check those out today. They should be clean and relatively cheap, although on Michigan Ave they might be a little pricier. I promise to get back to everybody later today with solid info.

I checked the websites for Fairfield and Red Roof. Unfortunately it looks like Fairfield is booked, but I was able to find a room at Red Roof at $109 a night for that night.

Anybody who wants a room, I would jump on this REALLY quick because this is right on the Magnificent mile and I'm sure these are gonna go really fast. The Taste is really popular.

Hell, I'm gonna try and reserve a room right now, and if one of you stay there you can pay me back later.

Here is the link:

I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you!

OK - I just booked a Suite at the Red Roof for $149 a night plus tax. At best, a couple of different folks can stay there and we can maybe have a little pre-show get together Saturday night.

At worst, nobody shows up, and I eat the $149 bucks myself, and sit and watch hotel porn by myself all night, but I've done stupider things so who cares!

Anyway, the Red Roof is at 162 East Ontario. I live at 400 W. Ontario.

This seems to be coming together. Please post on this thread if your interested in the room, or whatever.

Signed,

Motel Matches!

You guys are making me so jealous. Worst of all is, were I in the States this summer, I could parlay this into a visit to my aunt and grandfather, both of whom I adore, both of whom would provide me with plane fare and a place to stay... Excuse me while I go beat my head against a wall.

I'm right there beside you beating my head, miss ba. I don't mind the drive to Chicago, but my two middle boys are going to boy scout camp for a week beginning that day and I have to make sure they get to Atlanta. The opposite direction from Chicago. *Sigh*

Damn!!!! I' having a last minute 'what the hell I'll drive to Chicago' moment...apparently I have to work that Saturday but I'm gonna try and get out of it... I'm too interested in meeting people here to pass it up!!!!

(oh yeah, and some guy named Elvis isn't coming near me so why not take the opportunity)
A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. Do you think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a fuckin' cross? It's kind of like going up to Jackie Onassis with a rifle pendant on.

okay, okay, i'm considering it. yeah, i'm a nut.

i'd like to fly cheaper than $220. i've got a sleeping bag, but i do need to be alive for work on tuesday. don't have that many vacation days left.

this can be what i do in lieu of going to Scotland. oh, how LAME!!!

Poppet, that room I have reserved at the Red Roof is a suite, with a king size bed and a sleeper couch. So far it's empty.

I' will chip in for the room just so as to cut costs for everybody, but I've got a nice comfy bed right down the street that I'll be sleeping in.

But you might want to consider; Chicago? Scotland? I dunno, that's not much of a call. I'd go to Scotland in a heartbeat, but then again I don't know if it's something you do quite often.

In any case, keep me posted as to any decisions.

craig bartal

ps - if anybody wants to call me about this, private message me and i will give you my phone number.

cbartal, i can't go to scotland w/ my friends this summer - i goofed and miscounted my vacation days. i don't have enough to justify the expense of the ticket, i'd only be there a week. they're staying for two.

so, i'm thinking about going to chicago instead. it's the same time frame. but yeah, what a letdown. :)

Less Than Zero -

Printers Row is in the West Loop. It's roughly a couple of miles from the lake, so it is a couple of miles from the show. It's fine over there. Chicago is real easy to get around in.

The problem is, I don't know exactly which Hyatt you are talking about. I couldn't recall one in Printers Row, and when I checked the Hyatt Website it only showed the 3 I know that I know of.

Can you give me more details on this one your talking about.

Poppet, too bad about Scotland.

Anyway, pip 52 is expressing interest in the room also. pip won't know for a week though. Any arrangements that people are comfortable with is fine with me as far as the room goes. As I said, it's a suite.

But at some point we all might want to discuss the matter by phone seeing we are all kind of relative strangers to one another.

Maybe someone can consider booking another room or whattever. I think that you can cancel up to one day prior to check in.

I don't know, I'm really just tossing out ideas. But things are sizing up to be alot of fun!

okay, it was a pipe dream.

i'm gonna stick around the Boston area instead of getting my sorry self to Chicago for the free EC show.

well, when i say it like that, it sounds almost pathetic. but really, i'm just pooped. feeling my age perhaps? eww, that would be nasty.

i do have tickets (crappy seats, but tix none the less) to the Boston gig. even discovered a friend is an EC fan, so she'll come with.

sorry to miss this opportunity to meet folks. another time?

Sorry to hear it poppet, but I'm sure that the Boston show will be great. I've got tix for Detroit as well.

BTW - if anyone else wants to make any more plans about the Taste, please be aware that I will be away from a computer from 6/23 to 6/30.

I'll be back in time to further plan for the july 6th show, but if you have anything urgent make sure to post before friday 5 pm cst.

I'll be camping part of next week, and the other part in Vegas.
