I would have tried but someone told me all the answers-that would have been cheating!

Norman Brain- in the event that Mr. Misery can't fulfill the duties that come with this victory, you shall wear the crown! :P

What are the duties?

Mr. Misery-All hail brilliant you! Congratulations formal, witty Mr. Misery.

There's 2 Mr. Miserys on this board, I've noticed... Mr. Misery and Mr Misery. Whichever one did this quiz obviously cheated. 8)

Miz, I bow down before your immensely intimidating command of Elvis trivia...

And before that of Mr. Doofson, cause he came up with the brilliant questions! And to the rest of you who ventured guesses (truly I would've gotten 3, tops).

How many words in EPISODE OF BLONDE, I wonder??

Jackson Doofster, thanks for the quiz, it was great fun. To formulate such a difficult set of questions you had to know a great deal of Elvis Costello information so you are the real winner, getting 31 out of 31! Perhaps I took the contest too seriously. I have asked my associates to untie the Foyle brothers, who are now free to post again.

Norman Brain, thank you kindly for your gracious words. You are extremely knowledgeable and I learn so much from you.

Lapinsjolis, you are the most darling, charming woman! I accept your congratulations with gratitude. I am not brilliant  it's just that I've been following EC since the beginning of his career and have read two books on him, one great ("Let Them All Talk" by Brian Hinton) and one poor ("Elvis Costello" by Tony Clayton-Lea). Who gave you all the quiz answers in advance, was it Josie Cat?!? At any rate, LJ, you are my very favorite board member, I just adore you.

Sweet Pear, I appreciate your thoughtfulness, you always have a good word for everyone.

Dr. J: Always great to see an alumnus from the original Island message board.

Bambooneedle: Join me in welcoming the newest board member, Mr Misery from the UK. I am the American (without tears twilight) version Mr. Misery.

Self-Made Mug: I counted for you, 451 words in "Episode of Blonde." One of the questions I got wrong on the quiz was which song has nearly 300 words. I guessed "Toyko Storm Warning" when the correct answer was "Beyond Belief." Anyone with a mind to cheat could have easily counted the words, with five days to work with, of the plausible choices.

Mr. Misery- Rarely are humility and brilliance coupled within such a gentleman. I'll never reveal who told me all the answers. That is a secret.

Mr. Misery, I don't and didn't have reason to think anyone would have cheated. I'm sorry if it might have seemed that way. I guessed Tokyo Storm Warning as well.

Here's one for you: What's Jake Riviera's original name, or did he even have a different one?

Correct!

I was recently reading (after the quiz of course) about him and how he would gleefully rubber stamp a huge 'REJECTED' on prospective Stiff Records signings' letters, before sending them back.

Question 26 - are you sure Elvis toured solo in 1884? 1984 surely...

yours pedantically
VG :)

However, it was an excellent quiz and I learned a few things.

Maybe I'll enter the next one!

Okay, actually spit out my Peet's iced latte over that. You're the funniest misery I ever knew.

And who's your period-challenged doppelganger, do you know???

The whole thing about Beyond Belief having 300 words...

I believe I originally read that fact in a review of the first ImpBed reissue, maybe in Q, maybe not, and it was just another dumb fact that stayed with me... It was probably the same source that triggered the question...

And well done MrMisery.

Ah, so this is where the answers are! Congrats, Mr. Period-Unchallenged Misery, 28 is awesome, and many thanks to the Doof for great questions.

But where were the Foyles? Didn't they want to show us all up?

I'm amazed I got as many as 10 - some inspired guessing!

I'd like to read a good book on Elv. It seems Let Them All Talk is the best option, but even that doesn't rate that highly. Surely someone here could do better, given a chunky advance and the necessary time?
