Elvis hears your prayers: a live album

Breaking news... I just did a phone interview with EC, and the most
interesting bit of news was that he and the Imposters are going to film
a full-length
live DVD in the very near future, trying to capture the vibe of this
record
while they've still got it and, of course, apply it to the older
material as well.

When I saw the House of Blues show last year, I started thinking that
the
video feed of that would make a perfectly great concert DVD. But the
timing is
even better now, coming off the buzz of having made the first
full-fledged
Imposters album.

I mentioned to him that I wished "Button My Lip" went on
for 10
minutes. He said the original take was, actually, a little over nine
minutes,
that they had to do an edit on it because he didn't think people would
be
ready for that.

I guess Elvis is capable of being his own quality controller.

The HOB concert in Hollywood was well recorded and would make a perfect DVD. Amex sponsored the event and I have often wondered if they had any provision in the deal to provide the material for a live video.

As consistent with most, I am not a fan of live recordings. But for virtually everyone here who has experienced the thrill of Elvis in live performance, it would be a real treat.

With that being said, I would prefer that a DVD release would feature a composite of performances that celebrate his solo performance, the Imposters at full-tilt boogie speed, and the Costello Nieve duo performances. When Johathon Demme captured David Byrne and the Talking Heads in the now classic live film "Stop Making Sense" he constructed a tour de force that started solo, with each subsequent song building on the one prior, both sonically and with respect to added personnel (first the Heads one by one, and then additional musiicians until it reaches a sustained crescendo with a veritable rock and roll orchestra on stage. If EC could pull that off, it may eclipse the Demme landmark and become something for the ages.

It looked to me like whoever was directing the video production at the HOB show was doing an outstanding job...hopefully that will surface some day.

But this sounds even better. And getting a "real" director involved would be cool. Wonder if Jonathan Demme's a Costello fan. I suppose there's always Neil Labute, but he'd probably have Elvis torturing a sparrow or something.

Actually, you should give David Byrne credit for the staging, with the musicians (and parts of the set) coming out one by one. That's how they did all their shows on that tour. Jonathan Demme just filmed it (of course he did a great job filming it :)).

I'm not! It's my least favourite song from the album.

Thank you, Pov. That makes perfect sense. It is a good point of clarification.

Is there a transcript of this anywhere?
