This feature doesn't seem to be online at the moment.

I don't have a scanner that can do text - here's a scissors 'n paste version -

Thanks for posting that, John.

I'm quite fond of the "The Captains and the Kings/Faithful Departed" single (and of course,The Pogues). It's most unfortunate that this has happened to Phil - but at least he's hanging in there.

It's great to see Phil was up 'n about right to the end. Here is his last 'Going to the theatre' entry on the Pogues forum -

Rusalka by Antonín Dvorák, libretto by Jaroslav Kvapil (Gaiety Theatre, Dublin) September 21

I am sometimes in the custom of scrawling a brief note, at the end of a show, on the first page of my programmes, with a view to fleshing out the basic idea later. "Kinda thrilling" it says and I have found nothing in the ensuing 24 hours to improve on that, not even a fairly desultory game of Irish football on Sunday. Real 5-star opera is seen in Dublin at last and, as a rule, with Dvorák, kinda means "very". And "very" means your breath has been taken away by one or more aspects of the production. Bravi!!

Phil and the rest of The Pogues provided me with much fun, quality music and excuses to drink.

I remember sitting in a pub in Sheffield in 85/86 before a show when all The Pogues walked in, had a look round, saw it was full of studenty types and then promptly departed.

RIP Phil

I was lucky enough to meet Phil a couple of times, albeit pretty briefly.
Some memories of that here.
RIP Phil.
