It took a long while for me to post this 'cause this brilliant record is so damn even in quality. The first 15 songs or so above are pretty much perfect in my book, and the ones that follow are really close. Phew.

The top two and the bottom five I'm pretty sure about, but the songs in the middle may be a tie. Get Happy is certainly one of my favorite EC Albums, it is very consistent. The reissue has some great songs, too.

By the way, this album ranks very high on my Girls, Girls, Girls delta factor. This means, how good are the songs that do not appear on Girls x 3? Trust, although a brilliant album, has a low GX3 Delta.

Everytime I click on a song title to adjust its rank-order I start singing it...then it begins to ascend in the rankings like hot lava bubbling through the core of a volcano. And everything goes awry.

Probably the most difficult Costello album to rank. Says something about short, power-pop melodies. Sounds like a formula for success.

Oh, I think they do. I'd rank it pretty high on almost any other album. I can't think of another song I'd rank last on an EC disc that's as good as Beaten..., except maybe whatever will bring up the rear on Imperial Bedroom.

I agree with King. I DO like Beaten to the Punch, just not as much as some (most) other songs on the album. Looking at my list again, I would probably move it up two spots. Ask me again next week and who knows.

its a shame to see such great songs as Opportunity or Motel Matches ranked this low... the only song that i don´t like MUCH in Get Happy is 'I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down', which it isn´t a bad song at all!
