I Still Have the Other Girl’.

PERFIL

‘This Year’s Model’ (’78), ‘Blood and Chocolate’ (’86), ‘Mighty Like a Rose’ (’91), ‘Kojak Variety’ (’95) e ‘When I Was Cruel’ (’02), são alguns dos registos em que experimenta uma abrangente panóplia lírica e sonora. Costello compôs ainda para nomes como Paul McCartney, Brodsky Quartet, Burt Bacharach e Anne Sofie von Otten e para bandas sonoras como ‘Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me’, ‘Notting Hill’, e ‘Cold Mountain’.

zero em humildade

%Eurico Monchique

Nos Bastidores com Elvis Costello Depois do Concerto / In the Embroidery frames with Elvis Costello

obrigando-o a fazer três "encores". Do ponto de vista

Ocupem!

confessou.
tentou resolver o problema convidando as pessoas do
enquanto o cantor atacava as primeiras notas de "You
Turned to Me", de "North", o seu último álbum.

vinil: "Accidents", "45", "Home Truth", "Shot with Is
Own Gun" e "This House" .
muitas palmas.

"The Delivery Man" ou "Detectives".

reservado no Inferno".
Costello "roubou" o primeiro nome: "Elvis has left the
building".

In the Embroidery frames with Elvis Costello

After the Concert For RUI BAPTISTA
Sunday, 09 of May of 2004

Fifteen minutes after locking up the memorable concert
in the Coliseu of the Port, already dress with the
traditional dark gabardina and a straw hat with a
threaded purple ribbon in the head, Elvis Costello
confessed, in an unexpected attack of modéstia, that
the night had not run to it well. "the public was
warm but I was not in my days", I said to the PUBLIC
the author of "North", while he signed a pair of
autographs in the embroidery frames of the Coliseu and
drank to the golinhos cooling "diet".

This severe auto-critical one would not be of
certainty subscribed for the hundreds of people who,
in the friday night, if had fired to the noisy singer
anglian-Irishan with one longuíssima and very saved of
palms, compelling it to make it three "encores". Of
the point of view of the spectators, the concert of
almost two hours and stocking hardly could have run
better. Elvis sang some of the biggest successes of
its already 30 years of career, showed as it goes to
be "South", its new album, gave space to the
virtuosity of the teclista Steve Nieve (that it
folloies it since the time of the Attractions) and
still had breath and talent to put all people to laugh
at some taken off short but acid. They occupy!

In the embroidery frames, Elvis advanced with an
explanation for its disenchantment after-concert: the
absence of public in first the two lines of the
plateia of the Coliseu. "It looked at for low e alone
saw a brightness metallic", confessed. Soon in the
beginning of the concert, first after more than the 20
years of absence of the Portuguese palcos, it tried to
decide the problem inviting the people of the deep one
of the plateia to sit down in the chairs of the front.
"They occupy the places of the rich ones",
stimulated.

The spectators had not become supplicated and during
a pair of minutes it was a running for the lines of
the front, while the singer attacked first notes of
"You Turned you Me", of "North", its last album.
Already if wise person who Elvis Costello is a notable
writer of songs, but the friday night served to
confirm that he is also a singer well above of the
average.

The concert pulled out in nostalgic tone, with Elvis
to attack songs of the times where still it recorded
in vinyl: "Accidents", "45", "Home Truth", "Shot with
Is Own Gun" and "This House". In this last subject,
the singer excused the microphone, but its voice
continued to hear clearly in all the Coliseu,
powerful, crystalline. Elvis would have to repeat
"gracinha" many times to the long one of the night, in
a reliable demonstration in its vocal resources always
received with many palms.

The songs of loves failed to meet of "North",
interpreted with severity and sobriety, had been heard
in an almost reverencial silence for the public. But
the moment most impressive happened to follow, when
the public if relieved unconditionally to the songs of
"South", two ballads in tone "folk" to make to
remember Vam Morrison, but with more muscle and edges.
"Under a certain light it was looked like Elvis,
under another light was looked like Jesus", ironizou
the singer. From the concert it gained new rocking
there, with the recriação of some velhinhos subjects
as "Veronica", "The Delivery Man" or "Detectives".

Costello caught in the guitar, Nieve alternated the
piano with the "melodica" (a portable keyboard that if
blows as one trompete), and who closed the eyes had
the sensation of that and roll was in palco a complete
band of "rock", and not only two men of middle-age,
disfigured but talentosos. Already of cavaquinho
(ukelele) to the chest, Elvis touched the beautiful
ballad celta "Scarlet Tide", of the sonorous band of
the film "Cold Mountain", that Original Song for a
subject of the "Gentleman of Rings" was defeated in
the race for the Óscares de Melhor. "Bloody hobbits",
joked the singer.

Marked for the versatility and the good taste, the
concert finished for having a series of false ends,
with Elvis to return to palco the order of the public.
E was in one of these occasions that "Peace" touched,
dedicated "to that one Mr. of Washington that has a
place reserved in the Hell". In the end, it only
lacked that somebody came to the microphone to say the
phrase with that they locked up the concerts of the
other Elvis, the Presley, to who Costello "stole" the
first name: "Elvis has left the building".

This night, after the night of yesterday in Lisbon,
has more in the Figueira of the Estuary.

FIGUEIRA Of the ESTUARY Center of Artes and
Espectáculos of the Figueira of the Estuary, today to
the 22 hours. Of 15 the 20 euros.

Concerto: músico britânico voltou a palcos nacionais
ELVIS EM RECITAL INTIMISTA E FRENÉTICO
'How to Play the Guitar, Sing Loudly and Impress Girls or Boys'.

saber.

Costello tirou 32 canções do seu saco... espalhou
charme, bom humor, silenciou a plateia do Coliseu

Elvis Costello, Coliseu of the Recreios, 8 of May the 2004 Happily expectation accumulated throughout vários years só served to become this still more mágica night. She was without will none to go to the Coliseu to hear apresentação of the North and half dúzia of doubtful ballads. E although to know that this age provável little, não wise person very well to whom it went. E não could know. Costello took off 32 canções of its bag... spread charm, good mood, silenced the plateia of the Coliseu singing without amplificação, for a warm público that was partilhando with it the enormous will to touch, to show its música. Steve Nieve was the perfect friend for this night. I wait to be able vê it briefly, with the Imposters, yes yes, if this was thus imagines with a band. It is the alignment here (I stole some títulos that não knew à Free Wheel)
