Elvis in Italy

Post by johnfoyle »

I can`t find out anything about Elvis' shows of the last few days in Italy. As I usually do I've been hunting around some local `paper sites. Maybe someone here who understands the language might have better luck .

I watched Under the Tuscan Sun, but I didn't learn any Italian. Oh wait, that was an inane and pointless comment. Please excuse!
Like me, the "g" is silent.

1500 persone presenti all'auditorium delle Ciminiere

regalato, alternandoli a battute ironiche e
istrionismi che i suoi fans ben conoscono. Eccezionale
Steve Nieve, pianista raffinato e polistrumentista
entusiasmante, che anche a Catania ha accompagnato
Costello per «In Concert: Playing Songs from North and
Other Favourites». Presi d'assalto ieri sera i

qualificato».

It was probably subsidised, making Italy an extremely cultured place, imo.

I'm contemplating going to Italy in May to catch a handful of his Detour shows.

Part of why I'm considering it: Based on concert clips I've seen of him there--and the fact that he's doing SEVEN shows there this year, compared to three in Spain and only one each in Germany, France, Scandinavia and Switzerland--I get the impression that EC has a particularly enthusiastic following in Italy.

Is this true? Has it been for some time? Has EC ever spoken about it/

L'Espresso which seems to be an offshoot of Repubblica, sums up the Italian leg of Detour thus in an articled published on 30 May:

Or in "English" via Google Translate

Elvis Costello, 40-year career in one show

Declan Patrick MacManus, aka Elvis Costello, brought his "Detour" only show in Italy. The new show traces the 40-year career of the multi-talented English singer-songwriter whose artistic experience ranges from a wide variety of music. Elvis Costello has released over 35 albums, collaborated with the likes of Paul McCartney and Burt Bacharach, and since 2003 has entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his band "The Attractions". That of May 29 at the Auditorium of Rome was the sixth of the seven Italian dates of the tour that made a stop in Turin, Milan, Padua, Florence, Bologna and ending in Brescia May 31, 2016."

The article accompanied a gallery of photos from the Italian dates.
