EC and racehorses
The "Elvis when you least expect it" thread made me think of this.
As you can probably guess from my "handle", I'm into horses. I have noticed two 3-year-olds listed this year that were of interest. One is "Forty Five" and the other is "Spooky Girlfriend". I don't think either has started, and Spooky Girlfriend's work times are terrible - don't think she could outrun a plow horse!
Just thought it was kind of interesting - BUT - didn't "When I Was Cruel" come out in 2002? These horses would be foals of 2001.

WhipsnSpurs, thought you might like to know that according to a radio interview that Elvis did last year, he used to have shared ownership in a racehorse called Stonehenge. He described it in a wonderfully untechnical way as a jumping horse. I gather that it was not very successful as he described it as jumping like Stonehenge.

Well, I'm a bettin' man on occasion, but it's my dad who's the horseplayer in the family. However, on those rare occasions when I do play the ponies, my betting philosophy would pretty much force a bet on either horse. If they're longshots, all the better, as I never bet more than $5 on a horse anyway.WhipsnSpurs wrote:One is "Forty Five" and the other is "Spooky Girlfriend".
As to my more usual proclivities, well, EC has never written a song called "21" or "Yo Eleven."

"Spooky Girlfriend" is most likely directly EC inspired, I guess, but "45"...well, could be the age of owner or his/her year of birth, his favorite kind of gun, etc. -- but if both horses are owned by the same person/people, you're undoubtedly right. That would be too much of a coincidence.

But only Elvis fans would bet on it!
King Horse, would be better.

Oh yeah there are rules. You have to run names through the Jockey Club before they become "official". Some basics -- no more than 18 characters, no naming after famous people without authorization from the person or estate, no naming after famous horses, and no lewd or suggestive names.
