Elvis "Official" Live Album - ForElvisCostelloFans

Post by stormwarning »

I thought about this before - EC has released plenty of live tracks officially, and I wondered what they'd sound like if they were put together on a double album.

Off the top of my head I'd have to go for :

A kick-ass start (excuse the Amerikanism)

1. Accidents Will Happen (AF Bonus)
2. Mystery Dance (El Mocambo)
3. Waiting For The End Of The World (EM)
4. Less Than Zero yeeee-hah (EM)
5. I Just Don't Know What (MAIT bonus)
6. Stranger In The House (AF bonus)
7. Chelsea (EM)
8. Lipstick Vogue (AF bonus)

A touch of sophistication:

9. Temptation (Costello &Nieve 5CD)
10. All This Useless Beauty (C&N 5 CD)
11. Black Sails In The Sunset ( C&N 5 CD)
12. Just A Memory (C&N 5CD)
13. Just About Glad (C&N 5CD)
14. Deep Dark Truthful Mirror (can't remember)
15. It Tears Me up (KOA bonus)
16. Couldn't Call It Unexpected No.4 (MLAR bonus)
17. Hurry Down Doomsday (MLAR bonus)
18. I'm Your Toy (AB bonus)
19. Many Rivers To Cross (Live For Ireland)
20. He's Got You (AB bonus)
21. That Day Is Done (Live from the Mountain Stage)
22. She Moved Through The Fair (Elegie The Collection - BQ

First encore:

23. The World And His Wife (PTC bonus)
24. The Only Flame In Town (GCW bonus)
25. Motel Matches (GCW bonus)
26. Almost Blue (Cruel Smile )

And a rousing second encore / finish

27. Uncomplicated (CS)
28. 15 Petals (CS)
29. Alison (Armed Forces Reissue)
30. Pump it Up,as in Standing Up, Up Up (EM)
31. Chemistry Class (solo AF bonus)

Does anybody have any suggestions / additions / deletions ? And, er, would anybody like a copy ? I think I'll make a compilation next week and ask my partner-in-crime, confidante and (tor)mentor Perfectblue to help me design a rather classy CD cover for "ForElvisCostelloFansOnly".

I'm also looking at making an "Unofficial" live double CD that runs like a live show, and uses tracks that were performed when they were still fresh. I'll leave that to a later post, but if anybody else wants to start it first then feel free to jump right in.

Good stuff storm.
I love the link between LV and Detectives on the AF reissue and so would squeeze that in. I would also like to see Roadette Song (TYM reissue) and Spooky Girlfriend (CS) included. I wasn't too keen on SG when WIWC came out, but after seeing him do it live it's clear that that is the best format for it.

I would love a copy.

Sounds like heaven. I would have to add The Parting Glass, as sung in Chicago as a tribtute to the parting Derek Bell. You choose where it goes, though of course it's a leavetaking song, so belongs at the very end. I think I would leave throughly mindblown after that.

But I can do Plaything too. And nobody's called me "stormwarningmelad" since my grandad died in 1970...

Keep the suggestions coming, then I'll be collecting addresses.

The sublime performance of Shipbuilding by EC at Steve Nieve's Paris show in December 2001 is also worthy of serious consideration.

Alright, who do I have to sleep with for a copy?

Anyone? Hello? Anybody out there?
A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. Do you think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a fuckin' cross? It's kind of like going up to Jackie Onassis with a rifle pendant on.

Otis, Martin - for this collection I'm using only official releases. When it comes to Parting Glass and Shipbuilding, I'm also putting together a track list for an unofficial one that fills in the gaps in the official releases but still runs like a live show. I want to try and maintain a consistent sound quality too, so I have my work cut out.

Four years later I know but just put this live listing on my iPod - Also added Tokyo Storm Warning in honour of the creator - I think it will be fun tomorrow.

I would LOVE a copy. Incidentally, there is a man on the Joe Jackson yahho group who compiled live bootleg versions of every song that JJ perfromed live, including cover versions. He did it in chronological order where possible and chose the best version of classics plus songs performed rarely. It ran to 20 CDs!

How about The Bells, always made me shiver during the 83 tour and the PTC live version does it great credit.
