According to some brief stage door chats with fans in the UK in June , Elvis isn't too confident that there will be much promotional activity in the UK for the book. The publishing industry makes a poor job of promoting new writers - unless it's something about shopping and fucking - so the mind boggles at how they'll handle a bolshy new newcomer like Elvis. Factor in that Elvis is still regarded as a pop star from the past by the general population in UK - except for the discerning few like us! - and it seems more practical and likely that the emphasis will be put on promotion in North America .

When asked the question at Basingstoke he said he wasn't sure and "they" were trying to work something out.

I'm hopeful but not optimistic.

According to the publisher's website, the memoir has mysteriously gained another 50 pages since the last time I looked. 672 pages, and counting...

Any bets on the final page count? :)

When he sings "When I write the book" he says 1000 pages a day easily. I thought he was only joking...

Dan Kois works for Slate.com and Slate has used this venue to record podcasts before, so I suspect that at least a portion of this event will end up being available as a podcast.

Wow. Isn't that the combined sales of his last half-dozen or so albums?

8 books that got all the buzz at BookExpo 2015

I just returned from the annual migration of booksellers to BookExpo America, the largest publishing event in North America. This trade show for publishers, authors and booksellers is heaven for book nerds. Free books. Famous authors. Publisher parties. And an advance look at the hottest upcoming titles. Here are some of the fall releases that the book business is all abuzz about:

(...)
“Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink” by Elvis Costello. The long-awaited memoir by the English singer-songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. I attended a little get-together at BookExpo that included Costello in conversation with “VH1 Storytellers” creator and author Bill Flanagan. If Costello is even half as funny, interesting and candid in his new memoir as he was in their interview, then readers are in for a huge treat. (October)
