Birds Birds Birds

Post by laughingcrow »

Ok, here's some kind of game...in my reckoning there are 17 songs on actual EC albums in which birds are mentioned....

one is a bit cheeky though, but valid. ''punishing his secretary''bird and ''I just wanna hear Gulls talk'' will not be accepted however!

Name those 17 songs!

Does this mean actual types of birds, or just the word 'bird'?

If so,

'And she carries a bird-purse, with all of her womanly ways'
--Pads, Paws and Claws

'But with a bird in his hand, and two on a string'
--You Little Fool

The Birds Will Still Be Singing

If not, well, then, never mind.

I have a Congo African Grey Parrot who I love as if he's my only child and as God as my witness, every single time I play 'The Birds Will Still Be Singing' he goes berserk! He's done this for the ten years that I've had him. The strange thing is that he really doesn't do a thing throughout all of 'The Juliet Letters' probably cuz of the somber nature of the music but when it comes to the last track..............................it's whistling city! I wonder how a cat would react to 'Pads Paws & Claws'?
I can't remember being any younger.

Yeah all those count....I did go for the word 'bird' as well as specific names, just to bulk it up....ha ha, I did count pidgin in pidgin english yes! There is one other that may be a bit difficult for non-birdy types though...

only 9 more.

PS..Toy Soldier...those parrotts are great, my friend had one that use to verbally abuse his in-laws!

4. Swallow Grave
5. I Swan-t You.

Do I win a prize?

How about:

Robin Horse Road
Night(jar) Rally
I'll Wear Tit Proudly
Finch by Finch
Wren I was Cruel

Ok...so I'm just being silly (and stealing VGs idea)

Thought of one....

"Bluebird singing in the tree, seems to sympathise with me...."

Colour of the Blues (interesting that he uses the UK English Spelling there)
"But they can't hold a candle to the reciprical war crimes which have plagued our policy of foriegn affairs."

There's nothing as sexy as a guy who can come up with good puns off the top of his head. Unless it's my brother (sorry, Paul).

"You can pray to your uncle
Only get that chicken out of here"
- Night Rally

"All the vultures tuning in to Glitter Gulch"
- Glitter Gulch

(Does it count if the song was actually an instrumental? Because in the words to Stalin Malone, even though they werent used, there's this line:

"Yes, horse's heads up hung in the trees after
the bird had flown"

If not, then nevermind . . .)

"How he wanted to smash her skull when she parroted back, tell mommy, tell poppy, you need this little dolly"
--A Town Called Big Nothing

which song, by the way, has been haunting me and very much growing on me lately. Really nice guitar and trumpet, Sy Richardson's verrrry sexy voice, and imagery that is keeping me warm this winter.

Hi, Im back from sunny Loch Lomond...now officially a field first-aider! Who's first for mouth-to-mouth and heart massage???

Selfmademug gets the award for finding one I missed from 'The Element within her'...well done! PS..that is a great pic of your parrot!

Pip, I can't tell a cuckoo clock from the squeals of saxaphones, so I did count that one!

Everyone else a very well done to you....special mention to the mighty VoibalGym and Doof for the funnies.

still 3 more though...one's a real ornithologist geek one, one is in a song that's already been mentioned, and then there's the other. (bonus points also for the extra one from an EC album that he never sang on)

Anyway, must fly...

Does "Goose step dancing, can't hear myself speak" from Radio Sweetheart count as being on an actual album?

Similarly "The seabirds diving down into black water" from Rope on For The Stars?

Also from Dissolve "Can I spit out the truth or would you rather just swallow a lie?"

Or am I stretching it a bit?

Crow, how were those bonny, bonny banks? I had a nice walk along the length of 'em (on the eastern shore) last May... PS, that is not my parrot, but I loved the pic.
