Sounds pretty cool to me! Although I'll probably be in the minority on this one. Diane is a pretty damned accompished pianist and understands melody. Combined with collaboration on the lyrics (Elvis' strong suit!), this might be a lot better that some cynics might expect. Diana's technique combined with Elvis' edge and lyrical genius. . .sounds like a match to me!!!

It only took my little finger to blow you away.

I hoped I've Changed My Address would be the song by The Jam. I can just imagine it...

..and was Joni Mitchell's Black Crow written about a relation of our very own LaughingCrow? :? :)

"Love Me Like a Man"

There's an Elvis Presley joke in there somewhere.

When I saw that I saw who wrote it and thought it was a Simpsons reference. Then I read it again and saw it was written by Smither and not Smithers.

D'oh!

Glad to see she's covering a song that pays tribute to me in an indirect kinda way (yeah right)...

How cool would it be if she did 'Temptation' in the style of the way it's done on the Costello and Nieve box set (hats off to BWAP!)

Has anyone here got any off her stuff...and if so (cos Im sure many of you do, if not just for the pictures on the inlay...eh Rope  ) what's it like..........I saw her do a little concert on Performance TV and it was ok, does she do any jazzy upbeat numbers usually?

VG - I am listening to "All Mod Cons" as I'm in this thread. Not the same album - but kind of a coincidence - anyone not familair with "Changed My Address" - take a look at the lyrics - it would be pretty ironic for her to put this on an allbum --

Knew the time to leave had come when you pointed out your ring
Never could see what was in this matrimonial thing
Baby baby baby you sure made a noise when I left
And your father started shouting lest you ironed a shirt 'for I left
Baby baby baby, I've changed my address
Didn't mean to make you cry, but I know its for the best
Baby baby baby, I've changed my address
It's OK being in love girl, but then fun is second best
Would have like to explain first but it was a split decision thing
Couldn't see me settling down with a mortgage and a kid
Now I hear that you're looking for me, combing every single inch
You'll probably find me in Hyde Park
Try the hotel first then a bench

BWAP - that's pretty much what I meant. Somehow I couldn't imagine Diana Krall singing in the style of a teenage Paul Weller!

It was only a matter of time  I'm actually not a big fan of Krall's because I find her voice to be too deep. Guess I'll have to give this one more of a listen, though.

I envision Elvis and Diana as the Captain and Tenille of the 21st Century.

I have all of her stuff. She ranges from very slow and emotional, see her cover of A Case of You, to very upbeat and jazzy on well...most everything else she does. See the Live in Paris dvd or listen to the cd and you'll get a pretty good feel for her performances. I'm really excited for this new release since most of the material is her own. She really is a great musician and the earlier work she wrote was great....now that she has help from Elvis, it should be even better!

I can't wait to hear it....I'm a fan of hers.....didn't expect to be, but am.

I wonder what her fans will think when the album comes out.....

Hell, I wonder what I will think....his help, her voice? Probably will knock our socks off! Hopefully only she plays piano.....

I couldn`t resist the urge to check out the lyrics to the songs that Elvis `n Diana cover on this album ( yeah , this IS a duo album ; doubtlessly we`ll get more pussyfooting around about this aspect , like Elvis` refusal to be specific about the inspiration for North etc.) - here`s what I found -

Love Me Like a Man
- Chris Smither

The men that I've been seeing
Well they got their soul up on a shelf
You know they could never love me
Cuz they can't even love themselves

But I want someone to love me
Baby I want one to understand
Won't put himself above me
Who can love me like a man

I never seen such losers
Even though I tried
Find a mind to take me home instead of
Taking me for a ride

Baby, I use someone to care
Believe it when I tell you darlin'
You can love me like a man

Oh they want me to rock them
Like my back ain't got no bone
I want a man whose gonna rock me
Like my backbone was his own

Baby, I want to wait until you can
Believe it when I tell you darlin'
You can love me like a man

Come home sad and lonely
Feel like I wanna cry
Come over here and hold me baby
And don't ever ask the reason why
I said I, I want a lover
Won't have to work to understand

Don't put yourself above me baby
Love me like a man

Temptation

by Tom Waits

Rusted brandy in a diamond glass
everything is made from dreams
time is made from honey slow and sweet
only the fools know what it means
temptation, temptation, temptation
oh, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
I know that she is made of smoke
but I've lost my way
she knows that I am broke
so that I must play
temptation, temptation, temptation
oh, woah, temptation, temptation, I can resist
Dutch pink and Italian blue
she is there waiting for you
my will his disappeared
now my confusion's oh so clear
temptation, temptation, temptation
woah, woah, temptation, temptation
I can't resist

I’m pulling through

(Arthur Herzog Jr. / Irene Kitchings)

I'm pulling through and it's because of you!
When I was stranded came your helping hand
Lonely, hurt I had not known which way to turn
'Til you said, "Try smiles, not tears, just laugh and learn"
I'm pulling through and it's because of you!
You made me see how lovely life could be
Lifted up my heart and made me count the cost
To find I'd gained, not lost!

When I thought that hope was really gone
You showed me I was wrong
And you taught me how to carry on
Thanks for the lift in time and thanks for this song!

I'm pulling through and it's because of you!
I'd do the same for you if your turn came
Hope it never will
for I've been through the mill
I won't get this debt
I'm pulling through

Black Crow
Joni Mitchell

There's a crow flying
Black and ragged
Tree to tree
He's black as the highway that's leading me
Now he's diving down
To pick up on something shiny
I feel like that black crow
Flying
In a blue sky

I took a ferry to the highway
Then I drove to a pontoon plane
I took a plane to a taxi
And a taxi to a train
I've been traveling so long
How'm I ever going to know my home
When I see it again
I'm like a black crow flying
In a blue, blue sky

In search of love and music
My whole life has been
Illumination
Corruption
And diving, diving, diving, diving.
Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing
Just like that black crow flying
In a blue sky

I looked at the morning
After being up all night
I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light
I looked out the window
And I saw that ragged soul take flight
I saw a back crow flying
In a blue sky
Oh I'm like a black crow flying
In a blue sky

Stop This World -
Mose Allison

Stop this world
Let me off
There's just too many pigs in the same trough
There's too many buzzards sittin' on the fence
Stop this world
It's not making sense
Stop this show
Hold the phone
Better days this lad has known
Better days so long ago
Hold the phone
Won't you stop this show
Well it seems my little playhouse is falling down
I think my little ship has run aground
I feel like I'm in the wrong place
My state of mind is a disgrace
So, won't you stop this game
Deal me out
I know too well what it's all about
I know too well that it had to be
Stop this game
You know, it's ruining me

Well I got too smart for my own good
I just don't do the things I know I should
There's bound to be some better way
I just got one thing more to say
And that's stop this game
Deal me out
I know too well what it's all about
I know too well that it had to be
Stop this game
You know, it's wrecking me
Everyone just needs to fuckin’ relax. Smoke more weed, the world is ending.
