Elvis & Imposters/Blondie Las Vegas, August 1, 2019

Post by Man out of Time »

After his cancelled residency at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas last year, Elvis returns to the City with The Imposters and Blondie.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal published this preview by Jason Bracelin on 25 July.

"MUSIC

Elvis Costello & the Imposters and Blondie

Awhile back, genre-jumping singer-songwriter Elvis Costello compiled a list of the 500 albums you need to live a happy life, a catalog that includes “The Best of Blondie.” Costello will get a chance to profess his love for the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers in person when the two hit Vegas together. Hearts of glass shall melt, undoubtedly. See them at 8 p.m. Thursday at The Pearl at the Palms. Tickets are $59.95 to $299.95; call 702-944-3200."

This was a great performance. Elvis and crew were really loose and rocking, especially Davy. Burnt Sugar was a highlight. Much better than the studio version. They also played Unwanted Number

Did anyone else at this show notice how badly out of tune Elvis was singing at the beginning? It was shockingly awful. It carried on that way for three songs, and then he started his off-key singing again later for one or two songs. I assume it was his ear monitor misbehaving, but boy did it make for difficult listening.

Also, not crazy about the back-up singers and their antics, but that's another story....
