Elvis/Blondie Co-headlining tour. Which songs...

Post by verbal gymnastics »

...of Elvis should Blondie cover and which songs of Blondie’s should Elvis cover?

I’d love to see (although it won’t happen for us in the UK of course) a mini set between the two artists.

This could be a show closer which each artist doing 3 of the other’s songs.

What would be your choices?

They need to join forces for a "Go Away"/"Just Go Away" medley.

Elvis sings: One way or another.......
Blondie sings: Accidents will happen....

Nice one BA!

How about a Cautious Lip/Lip Service mash up as well!

I’d like to see Elvis do Union City Blue, Picture This and I reckon he could do a good version of The Tide is High.

I’d like to see Blondie do Party Girl, New Lace Sleeves and Heart Shaped Bruise.

I'd go for:
Elvis doing I'm Always Touched By Your Presence Dear
Blondie doing Tear Off Your Own Head It's A Doll Revolution
May not be the most original answers but I think they're the longest!
Can't you see I'm trying to change this water to wine

From another thread:

ASCAP Honors: Billie Eilish On 'G's Frank Sinatra, Ariana Grande And Jeff Lynne On Songwriting

When the focus is actually on songwriting and the songs, artists find it a joy to discuss. I spoke with Blondie's Deborah Harry, Chris Stein and Clem Burke as well about their illustrious career and songwriting.

"It's amazing and I think we've earned it. We've worked hard over the years and something I said earlier is we've been very fortunate to work with some wonderful producers, writers and other musicians," Harry told me of the award. "We've just been in the right place at the right time. And also we took some chances, combining different elements of music at a time when it really wasn't done. But yet we made it our own, we kept it."

Looking back at moments that were special for them in songwriting and the way their music was used, Stein picked a surprising moment. "When we were recording we always talked about music being used at sporting events and there was a moment years and years ago where there was a thing on TV of the Yankees in training and they put on 'One Way Or Another' behind it," he said. "I appreciate the intersection."

Blondie will be on tour this summer with another ASCAP lifetime honoree, the great Elvis Costello. As Harry put it succintly on touring with one of the great rock songwriters of all time, "It's not gonna suck." She added, "There are so many of his [songs] that I like."

So if there were to be any onstage collaborations what songs of each other would Blondie like to do? "'Oliver's Army' would be a good [Elvis] one for Blondie to do," Burke said. "And maybe 'In The Flesh' would be a good [Blondie] one for him to do."
