DAVEY and RELUCTANT APOSTLES live NYC , July 26 2018

Post by bronxapostle »

From one apostle, about a few others!! Katey and the band hit City Winery July 26. Sadly, i have a prior commitment to see my young cousin perform in Teaneck. The next night they are at the Mohegan Sun, i believe for free. and then in Verona, NY on Saturday... i think also a casino. Just because i will miss it, i do not want you missing out on it for perhaps not knowing about it....GO!!!

Katey Sagal & The Reluctant Apostles

Juky 26
at City Winery New York City

Doors: 6:00pm Starts: 8:00pm

THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES bring together the history of dozens of collaborations, hundreds of albums and thousands of concerts. The result is world-class musicianship and a shared instinct that infuses their connoisseur’s songbook of recordings with a confidence that only derives from years of high level experience. The band traces their roots back to the series SONS OF ANARCHY, where, as The Forest Rangers, they served as the musical must throughout the show’s 7 seasons. They began recording covers and original songs for the hit series; unknowingly, it was the start of something very unique and special. But it’s a new day and with that comes a new band!

So who exactly are these THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES? They are Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson) on bass and vocals, Phil Shenale (Tori Amos, Jane’s Addiction) on keys, Billy Harvey (Patty Griffin, Charlie Mars) on guitar and vocals, Michael Urbano (Cracker, Sheryl Crow) on drums, Bob Thiele, Jr. on vocals and guitar (Bonnie Raitt, Mavis & Pop Staples) and, of course, Katey Sagal, singing, playing guitar and percussion. From the start, THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES decided to dedicate their sound to preserving the long lineage of great songs and records that they grew up with. To that end, the band performs only cover songs, bringing each member’s own individual experience to a carefully crafted repertoire of familiar and unfamiliar songs to which they have applied their our own unique interpretations to. Listening to their debut recording, INTRODUCING THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES, the energy and vitality of the band is clearly on display. That excitement is even more pronounced in their live appearances.

From a review of a show in May 2017 -

http://concert-overload.blogspot.com/20 ... es-at.html

The band's set mirrored to a great extent their debut CD, appropriately titled "Introducing The Reluctant Apostles". To these ears, the evening's best songs were Bob Dylan's "When I Paint My Masterpiece" (sung by Bob), Solomon Burke's "Cry To Me" (with lead vocals by Davey) and the more obscure "Temptation Took Control Of Me" (featuring Katey's passionate singing). By the way, the "Temptation" song was written by a certain Eric Kaz, a prolific singer-songwriter whose entire career managed to elude me.

Great to hear that jmm, EXACTLY why i shared it here. Amazing how many of these things arise quickly and we hear about them AFTER the fact. Glad you will go. So sad as i would LOVE to see Davey sing lead. But, my little cousin is playing at the old MEXICALI LIVE IN Teaneck that night. Family first

Can it be that NO ONE went to see this? I would never miss the chance to see ANY Imposter performing less than 30 miles from my home. Sorry to see no details OR to be able to see the first DAVEY lead vocal since JACKSHIT in the same venue a few years back.
