DVD release of 1994 tv series featuring songs involving Elvis

Journalist Terry Staunton posts on Facebook -

Just been reviewing DVDs of the 1994 TV series Alan Bleasdale Presents, and belatedly discovered that each of the four films end with a song sung by Julie Walters and produced by Elvis Costello: All The Way, Doc Watson's The Lone Pilgrim (covered by Bob Dylan around the same time), God Will (Lyle Lovett cover) and Blue Bayou.

The end credits of each film read "produced by Elvis Costello", and all four feature the full songs. Requiem Apache is the best of 'em ( I didn't especially care for the others), and I think it would have made more sense to release the lot as a keenly-priced set, rather than as standalone titles.

Here's a breakdown of which song is on each film:
All The Way (Requiem Apache)
The Lone Pilgrim (Blood On The Dole)
God Will (Pleasure)
Blue Bayou (Self Catering)

Some info. buried in a feature in 1994 -

GQ , April 1994

'A regular collaborator is the playwright Alan Bleasdale. Costello wrote the theme to Bleasdale's TV series Scully and co-wrote (with Richard Harvey) the score for the TV drama GBH. He also appeared as a hapless magician in the Bleasdale-scripted movie No Surrender and has recently arranged a quartet of songs (including a luscious "All the Way") covered by Julie Walters; they will serve as endpieces to four single dramas by new writers produced by Bleasdale for screening on Channel 4 later this year. '

Elvis had worked before with some of the composers credited for the music with each of the films. Fiachra Trench worked on Blood On The Dole and Requiem Apache - Elvis worked with him on The Courier (1988) and some other projects , before Elvis learnt how to read and write musical notation. Richard Hartley did Self Catering - he also worked on Party Party (1982) , featuring a title song by Elvis , one he still disowns. Alan Lisk did Pleasure - Elvis doesn't seem to have worked elsewhere with him.

So long as Julie Walters doesn’t sing it in her “Dudley” accent
