Elvis and the Imposters European Tour 2018

Post by verbal gymnastics »

UPDATE

Elvis and the Imposters European tour June/July 2018

So far we have

June

16th - Oxfordshire, England
24th - Southend, England
30th- Sussex, England

July

2nd and 3rd - Rivierenhof, Antwerp
5th - Soestdijk Palce, Holland
6th - Manchester, England
9th - Graz, Austria
11th - Vienna, Austria
14th - Tysnesfest, Norway

June - the gap in dates lend themselves nicely to a little tour.

July - the chances of 4th (unlikely), 7th and 8th being in England are still possible. If they are confining themselves to festivals, somehow I can't see them doing Wireless in Finsbury Park, although they could appear as guests of The Cure or [*]shudder[*] Eric Clapton at Hyde Park.

Or, as is more likely in my humble view, no gig at all as he'll spend the time with his ma for her 90th birthday.

Elvis and the Imposters European tour June / July 2018

Now we have

June

16th - Woodstock, England

July

2nd and 3rd - Rivierenhof, Antwerp
5th - Soestdijk Palce, Holland
6th - Manchester, England
9th - Graz, Austria
11th - Vienna, Austria

Which opens up a whole two week period (week commencing 18 June, and week commencing 25 June) for other dates in the UK, Eire or elsewhere in Europe. These seem likely to be "festival" dates, or shows which are part of a sequence involving other artists (such as for the "Nocturne live" series at Blenheim). Elvis has previously played shows at Kew Gardens, the Cornbury Festival, the Henley festival, and of course Glastonbury. 2018 is a "fallow" year for Glastonbury, Kew the Music is 10-15 July with tickets already on sale, Cornbury is 13, 14 and 15 July with acts yet to be announced, Henley is 11-15 July with a programme already published.

Rhiannon Giddens is curating the Cambridge Folk Festival this year, but that is not until August, and the line up is already published, sans Elvis. He might pop up at some other summer festivals in Europe - so watch this space.

Thanks SP - I guess that makes my list redundant

Given that the tendency is to play no more than 2 nights in a row, I reckon we'll get a couple more dates between 17th and 21st.

So far I'm looking at Southend and maybe Nottingham.

Sulky lad will be happy about Plymouth!

I'll be in Finland from June 20-28 , so , once again Elvis schedules a tour near me while I'm away. He did the same in 2010, so I never got to see a Sugarcanes show. Just a coincidence , of course! :D

Plymouth - can't see Mrs. Sulky letting me out for that, I 've seen some great shows in Nottingham and I can stay with the kids then in Brum and I've never done Southend so that's another to tick off - very exciting !

Tickets for Southend, Plymouth and Nottingham are already on sale here http://www.eventim.co.uk/tickets.html?f ... iliate=3A2

The bad news for Southend is it's a seated gig :(

Someone just bought the row F ticket I was looking at but I can wait!

Oh no, now I’m going to hear some banal squawking over some of my favourite Costello tracks !!
At least there’ll be some decent backing vocals from Davey and the girls though

If anyone knows anywhere I can find irresistibly good seat for any of the English dates, please let me know. Unfortunately this tour is really out of the way for me with no straightforward way to get to any of the venues, but I could try and make a mini trip if I find a good ticket.

I waited especially for the Southend tickets to go on sale and got a really important phone call RIGHT at the moment the sale opened, so there wasn't anything great left over when I was finished. Crappy luck.

Apart from getting in at the very start , all the decent seats have really disappeared. I was supposed to be working on the Cardiff date but my boss offered to cover the last 4 hours so I could go but the best seats are some way back abs the same price as front rower ones on the second tier of stalls - Seems a bit of a rip off to me . I’m tempted to hang around and see if any private offers come up nearer the time . Also contemplating a trip to Dublin - if I were still in Birmingham I’d do Newcastle as well but it’s a bit too far from my place now !

Still no sign of a London gig - quite surprising, especially considering there might be a new album to promote though I guess the album, tour promotion thing is so old hat now
The Dublin trip appears to be off but I'm doing Nottingham, Manchester, Plymouth, Cardiff and Edinburgh - just got a row C seat there so hopefully I'll be able fit Newcastle in on my way back - just need to sort out travel arrangements now !

Forgot about Southend, how could I do that ? !!
Mrs.Sulky (holder of the keys to the exchequer) is only vaguely aware of these plans currently and I will act all surprised when the time comes and say " but I told you back in March that i was doing these !!" and " but I was bought an extra ticket by VG (or CTB or whoever serves as a suitable scapegoat) and I couldn't let them down !"
It's all a game

With Southend and Plymouth being postponed, the golden rule is Don’t Panic.

The dates will be rearranged, Elvis will come back bigger and better and we’ll all laugh about it.*

* laughs are not guaranteed
