Go Tell (Your Quiet Sister)

Post by IbMePdErRoIoAmL »

After last night's Kettering, OH show (18 July) I'm finding myself more & more infatuated with this song. They only online evidence of its existence (that I can find) is the cell phone video of the Charlotte performance. Using that recording along with the little my poor vision could gather from my view of the teleprompter last night, I've attempted the following lyrical transcription. There are, of course, some portions that are unintelligible to me. I may be way off with much of it. If anyone would like to chime in with their interpretation it would be most appreciated. Perhaps the hive mind can piece this thing together & then go on a crusade to convince EC that it's worthy of a proper release in some form or another. I would certainly hate to see it disappear in the fogs of time like "The Last Year Of My Youth". But I digress...

Go Tell (Your Quiet Sister)

Go tell
Go tell your quiet sister
Tell your obedient brother to tell your anxious mother
Pray tell
Call on your Heavenly Father
For all the bones we gather from the Springtime slaughter of his sons & daughters
Suddenly
All of the joyful things which we have shared ___________________
Are vanished or are tarnished
Go tell
Go yell it on the hillside
Tell your imaginary landslide to speak & spell
Go tell
Go tell your gutless neighbor
Speak up! He’s a silent witness
His name could be on the hit-list
Go tell
Go tell your quiet sister
Listen to your old transistor
Go tell
Go tell
_________________ arrived
With his semi-automatic scythe
You better run, you better hide from the flip side
Of your national pride
You want my name?
Well, that’s a shame
You should be under a key & lock
International laughing stock
Pray to earn a bail & bond
____________ & a bruising blonde
___________________________
Inside a failing golden mouth
You got everything your heart desires
It’s alright
Nothing is quite what it seems
Tears flow down like crocodile’s dreams
I cried ____________ (?misdemeanors?)
Oh well
Go tell
And we’ll run until we stand still
Your landslide becomes a landfill
Your __________________________
________ your unstrung puppet
Well, well
Okay, you can call your imaginary cousin
The one that works like slow acting poison
Go tell
Then echo & echo it down the mountain
Ten seconds left & counting
My resistance is so…
My resistance is so low
Go man! Go man, go!
Go tell
Go tell
Go tell

We have an official source for the first half of the song:

But I agree it's "hit list" rather than "hitless" despite what the lyric sheet says.

Lyricwise, it looks like a Catholic gangster song.
