our friends at google propose this:
A detour past the predictable

Elvis Costello about the tour coming to Jönköping this weekend
Jönköping / Vancouver He is one of the world's greatest artists. Over the phone talking about Elvis Costello tour Detour, where experimentation comes from and People's Park tour in the 80s.

It's a sunny morning in Vancouver when Elvis Costello, or Declan Patrick MacManus as his real name, answer the phone. He moved to the Canadian coastal town in the marriage to jazz singer Diana Krall but is really grew up in London and Birkenhead.

It was in the small town across the River Mersey from Liverpool as he once started his music career. The music was, however, in the home - and could be an explanation for Elvis experimentation in music.

- I just wrote a book ( "Shameless music and fading ink"), an autobiography, one can say, that I think are released in Swedish now. There, I tell about how music first came to me. My father was a singer and my mother sold the discs. So it made me aware probably right. There, my friends did not like the music their parents played sang my father instead of the radio. It meant that intergenerational somehow gone from us. I listened maybe not on all the music that younger, but I was listening to different things and found new passions in different periods, says Elvis Costello over a crackly phone line.

The experimentation, he also brought with him in his solo performance Detour coming to Jönköping Concert Hall 26 February.

- I have with me a giant television that projects images, photographs, strange visual effects that fit the songs, family photos and drawings I have signed myself, says Elvis and continues:

- The show changed radically night to night, from what I lured by the moment. In that way, I let myself rediscover the older songs and sounds more unknown songs arrive.

He tries to remember if he has been in Jonkoping earlier. It turns out that he has spent some time trying to come up with the answer on your own.

- I thought I had been there in the late 70's, but have not found anything. Most likely, I drove through sometime. When we went and played in the parks so people we used to end up in places that we have never seen again after that. Sweden was one of the first countries where I acted before I became a professional musician. We were welcomed by you in 1978 and got to play on television. Then we went around on public parks in the early 80s, but it's very blurred in memory.
Speaking of being out on the road so you call your tour of the detour. What takes a detour?

- I hope that it will take a detour past the musical rituals where it becomes predictable and instead get to something interesting every night. Not that I take any crazy risks with the whole of it.

Right now Elvis else to write the songs for a musical based on the short story "The Arkansas Traveler" which also has been filmed by Elia Kazan - under the name "A face in a crowd" as the musical will be called. In total, he has written 20 songs for it, and he says that it is often the songs from the project, which has been the highlight of his Detour tour.

- It is often what the audience liked the most. Otherwise, it is something unique about the theater that you can not get anywhere else. It was so songs mainly used to be driven before. Nowadays, we are too passive. When I was little so I had to wait until a radio program aired once a week to hear a particular song, now you can get the music world at a click of the computer.

Elvis Costello one man show

Showen avslutades, efter flera inropningar, med låten ” (What’s so funny ’bout) Peace, love and understanding” då hade Costello tagit plats i tjock-tv:en.

Elvis Costello one man show

Elvis Costello is an entertainer of rank, a world artist and meet their audiences alone on stage with a bunch of guitars and a blue Steinway piano and a narration full of energy. Musical he impresses not full.

A large 60's heavy TV dominated the scene in the concert hall and in the rolls a big part of what meant the most to Costello's life and it is a lot. Declan (Aloysius) Patrick MacManus, as his real name, can at their 62 years to look back on an impressive tunes and a colorful life with plenty to talk about.

Elvis Costello - Detour, will be a more than two-hour retrospective journey instead of one and a half and he prefers to do it himself, without backing musicians. Surrounded by a bunch of guitars and a blue Steinway piano, he offers a narrative musical journey.

Singer-songwriter enters into darkness and the river of the first song, the stage before flowing into the light. This is to the narrative images that rolls on the giant thick-TV will arrive as part of the show. The screen scrolls narrative images from his childhood, and various performances throughout the years. Along the way he talks about the parents and how he was influenced by his father, and he did the first gig with.

Together with their friends on stage, guitars and reconciled continuously during the show, wing and strategically placed microphones, he invites his audience / fans on a lovely trip. He does it with warmth and energy, and take on the role of entertainers with verve. An artist is not always easy to read, but that attack the guitar and often with great intense gesture completed. During the first songs with plenty of attack in the game gets the vocals are sometimes unclear and on the verge of false.

At the wing, he takes a quieter part of the show, including "Deep dark truthful mirror" a difficult but beautiful song played, looking modulations gave a real boost in the "Still", impressive. Wonder if his wife Diana Krall affected slightly.

Those in the audience, probably the majority, who longed to hear the best songs "She," "Watching the Detectives" and "Alice" did not need to be concerned about. Costello pulled the cord to the amplified sound world and went out of the room with the guitar in his hand and gave them Alice at intimate distance. He sat through a vacant chair at the conclusion of the tour of the premises.

The show ended, after several curtain calls, with the song "(What's so funny 'bout) Peace, love and understanding" as Costello had taken place in the heavy TV: a.
