Obviously I was wrong in my prediction that they'd play all of Imperial Bedroom. I still hope "Boy With A Problem" and "Little Savage" turn up at future shows.

I'm pleasantly surprised they found room in the show for some lesser played non-Imperial Bedroom songs ("Moods For Moderns," "You'll Never Be A Man," "You Tripped At Every Step").

I started it there but couldn't finish as I lost connection. But that's right. Backstage blows. Best part is the pass itself

Susan Maria Mikus on f/book

Borgata, Oct. 22, 2016.
The Set List (in order), my musings, and pictures:
1. The Town Where Time Stood Still
2. Loved Ones
3. Moods for Moderns (it was fabulous!)
4. You'll Never be a Man
5. Tears before Bedtime. (Sung slow, it was excellent)
6. You Tripped at Every Step
7. You Little Fool
8. Kid About It
9. Shabby Doll (no scream at the end)
10. Human Hands
11. Watching the Detectives (with a slide show of old crime movie posters and crime novel covers flashing during the song)
12. And in Every Home (EC stated it was arranged by Steve Nieve)
13. Pigeon English (spectacular)
14. Alison (solo with the 2 girls, it was done well)
15. Shot with His Own Gun (just EC and Steve, it was excellent, his voice was magnificent)
16. Almost Blue (I almost cried!)
17. Long Honeymoon.
18. Seconds of Pleasure
19. Beyond Belief
20. Man Out of Time
21. Town Cryer (violins replaced by Steve doing something amazing with sound, and at the end of it EC did some dadadadoodooo with the girls. The whole song was fabulous.)
22. Accidents
23. Everyday I Write the Book
24. Pump it up (I made my way to the stage for this and the last song.
25. What's so Funny bout Peace, Love, and Understanding

EC came out with a red hat on, but it came off within the first few songs. No jacket on! And he rolled up his sleeves when he took the hat off.

There were a few times I thought the sound was wonky. At one point I thought Davey's mic was too loud.
I was in the 3rd row, but to the right of center. EC didn't venture far from the mic, which surprised me.

His voice was terrific. The crowd was very subdued; everyone sat through the whole show, which was hard as it is really a dancing concert.

During each song a new picture was shown on the screen. Lots of cool art work that I presume is by EC.

At the end, security encouraged us in the first few rows to stand at the stage for Pump it Up and Peace, Love, & Understanding.
Something was wrong with the mic for the last song and I couldn't hear his voice.

It was super fantastic, and for me, such a dream come true to hear Imperial Bedroom. No, he didn't play the actual IB song.

Steve had a cool black hat on with a sparkly band around it. His piano was dark pink. Steve was sensational as was Pete, and Dave, and the girls, too.
During introductions, EC said that Davey did all the vocal arranging.

The hat went back on at the end.

It was not even anywhere near sold out.
He started at 8:05 and it was over at 10:05. It was too short for me.

I tried to get back stage, but couldn't get past security. So we waited by a door we were told he may come through. I left after a half an hour of waiting.

I am so looking forward to seeing it in NYC with some of you!!

What a great setlist.

Bear in mind that this is the opening show so things are only going to improve for you lucky people.

Let's hope this show comes to the UK. It's not unprecedented to miss us out as he did when Momofuku was released.

Looks like your list of songs seen live is going to increase BA!

I reckon that aside from the Imperial Bedroom sings not played, there's a few surprises to come out yet such as, maybe, I turn around (which he's done with Larkin Poe) and Sad about girls.

The anticipation..,

Excellent recap from Maria....I'll add two things. Everyday WAS SO MUCH ORIGINAL VERSON, that it has me wondering if he even did it this close to that on 1983 Clocking tours! The girls made it that way last night.
And, will be cool when we have video of an entire show (Larry  ) to see all the backdrop graphics. So great to see so many original lp covers of his, nearly all straight thru till ATUB, rejiggered with IB type cover artwork defacing original so wonderfully. An art show in itself!!!

My take - Very fun show despite the terrible crowd. There were a few technical problems that seemed to piss Elvis off (his own guitar, Steve's keyboards, and Davey's bass at one point), and the band will surely get tighter in short order. At least half the songs I had never seen performed before. Loved Moods for Moderns, The Loved Ones, Pidgin English, Shot With His Own Gun, You Tripped At Every Step, and the "original" version of EDIWTB with the backup singers was a real kick! They should do a few more songs from Punch the Clock since they have the ladies with them. I thought I was in for a rough night when a 400 lb dude sat next to me in the cramped folding chairs, but fortunately there was one empty seat on my other side, so I had room to move over.

I look at this show as sort of a warmup or dress rehearsal. I have a feeling that by time the Beacon shows come this is going to be absolutely awesome.

Doc's post reminds me, I thought the new artwork for the backdrops was outstanding - using all the album covers with an overlay of the artistic technique from the IB album. They were selling an art book with these prints at the merch table, so I bought one.

Photos of the backdrops on a facebook site has prompted a request from an associate of Elvis that the photos be taken down, to maintain the uniqueness of them within the concert setting. The images can be seen 'out there' somewhere online if anyone really wants to look.

The revival of The Town Where Time Stood Still is welcome. In my account of a show in Macroom, Ireland in June 1981 ( on its 30th anniversary in 2011) I commented -

With the dates in Scandinavia a week away it may be safe to assume that some of Elvis' entourage may have stayed on in Cork for a day or two. During July many of the songs that would make up 1982's Imperial Bedroom would be written, getting first performances in a one-off show in Newcastle in late August. A song that was only ever played live at that show wouldn't make that album (only appearing in album re-issues many years later) was called The Town Where Time Stood Still. It's George Jones/Billy Sherrill reference ("Almost Persuaded" ) aside its hard not to place it in and see it being inspired by a place like Cork, the Republic's second city. Well, I'm a Dubliner and I would think that!

All very tenuous, I'll accept.

That only performance , before this past weekend, can be heard via this wiki link

A few days late, but some thoughts on what was a great show.

I was looking forward to this tour, as Imperial Bedroom is one of my top 5 albums. Went back and listened to some of the shows from 1982 and it brought back great memories. Some of the songs from the album are played different since Davey replaced Bruce (Shabby Doll specifically) so I was looking forward to the current arrangements.

I was sitting 3rd row stage left. While I didn’t have a good view of the two girls, the interaction between Davey and them was interesting, coaching them on when to come in and go out of songs. Elvis sometimes looked over and seemed pleased. If in fact they got together just three days earlier, it was impressive. Looking forward to their contribution to more songs as these shows roll on.

The intro music was interesting. It seemed like a mix of songs from Il Sogno and snippets of his songs played by a marching band. All the while the artwork on the backdrop was rolling through.

Some songs had animated backdrop. IIRC, including “The Town Where Time Stood Still” and “Accidents Will Happen”. “Watching the Detectives” has the same (or similar) frames as it did during the ‘Detour’ shows. Some of the songs had a still artwork, and other had a still artwork along with the song title (I guess Maria had this on facebook before she was asked to take it down. I don’t do facebook).

Sound seemed off, I just thought it was because I was under the right stack, but I couldn’t hear Steve’s keyboards and Pete’s drums seemed to dominate the mix.

The guitar tech had a good work out. Most of the songs included a guitar change.

While I didn’t like it in 1983, I enjoyed the ‘original version’ of “Everyday I Write the Book”.

“Man Out of Time” was a bit slower than previous performances.

No bullhorn was used during “Watching the Detectives”, but was up on stage. He didn’t use the guitar loop either.

Davey broke a string during “Accidents Will Happen” and switched basses.

A completely reworked version of “Tears Before Bedtime”. I hadn’t heard this version previously.

I liked the solo electric version of “Alison” with the two girls. It included the Larkin Poe posted picture of the microphone on the back drop. Elvis had a name for the microphone, but it escapes me right now.

Elvis mentioned after he wandered between two microphones, prior to singing “Almost Blue” as if he forgot what song he was supposed to play. He quipped ‘can you tell it’s our first night’.

I was surprised “You’ll Never Be a Man” was played. I went back and listened, it is does have a story that plays into Imperial Bedroom, as does “You Tripped At Every Step”. So how does “Moods for Moderns” fit in (not that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy it). I guess it’s part of the ‘Other Chambers’. With the loop machine Steve has added (which was used on “And in Every Home” amongst others) as was mentioned BA previously, with the girls, do any “Punch the Clock” songs get added.

Elvis introducing one of the Imperial Bedroom songs, referenced the making of the album…’with Steve and Pete, and some other guy’. Old wounds die slowly.

Always have enjoyed Pete singing as he plays., Was surprised to find him singing to “Seconds of Pleasure”.

I haven’t sat that close to the stage in many years, so the interaction on stage amongst Steve, Pete, Davey and Elvis was great. Watching them read off of each both verbally and visually was fascinating. Seeing Elvis smile on stage was also nice. Again, given three days to rehearse for the shows, playing songs not played in decades, it is special how tight a band they are. I remember ready an article a few years back saying they rehearsed for one of the ‘one off’ Atlantic City shows during the soundcheck that afternoon.

I am interested to see where the set list goes moving forward. And it also brings along another thought. Can / Will he do something similar with other albums in the future. This is far better than seeing him play an album straight through or that spinning wheel.

Fantastic stuff - thanks.

With regard to the last comment, I think this could be a new phase of touring for Elvis. Detour and the Songbook shows were/have been flogged enough so Elvis needs a new angle. It also gives him a chance to play songs from specific eras. I just wish he'd end with a different song - and bear in mind that I love PLU.
