London meet up - Saturday 26th November

Post by verbal gymnastics »

If you're looking for something special to do between Halloween and Christmas, but fireworks night is not quite enough, then you should come along to the next London meet up on Saturday 26th November and spend the afternoon in such esteemed company as johnfoyle, sheeptotheslaughter, Neil., sulky lad, iansephton and Andy the Roofdog.

Unfortunately Goon Squad and Man out of Time cannot make it on this occasion as they are selfishly spending time with their other halves.

As ever, at this stage, we have no idea where we will meet but it's safe to say we'll start about 2pm.

Other people and venue suggestions are welcome.

Having enjoyed ourselves at the Water Poet last time, and not disgracing ourselves, we are going back there. Somehow I don't think getting a table outside will be an issue this time...

It's the usual 2pm start and a warm and hearty welcome awaits.

The address is 9-11 Folgate Street, Spitalfields London E1 6BX.

See you there!

Can't you just pop out for a pint of milk and then return about 5 hours later? I'm sure your wife and mother-in-law wouldn't notice. Whilst you are with us we can cunningly find an excuse to explain the smell of alcohol and why your speech seems to be slightly different!

Need to get away from those Black Friday/Saturday/Weekend/Week offers? What better way than to come along today. There's a buy one drink get one more expensive, same price or cheaper offer all day!*

If that doesn't tempt you then what will?

If you're coming we've decamped to Woodins Shades pub in Bishopsgate, very close to both Liverpool Street station and Folgate Street.

And what a great afternoon it was!

Anyone who bet on Neil. taking less than an hour to break into song would have won.

Thanks to sulky for the fab CDs and the DVD of the Roundhouse. I'm looking forward to watching it and dispelling those previous devious rumours that I was the guy dancing really badly!

There were so many brilliant conversations but I don't want to say more in case the police were/are listening in. As the song says "maintaining radio silence from now on"

An excellent time had by all. Some singing ( songs by Elvis & ,er, The Dooleys) and much discussion of aspects of Face In The Crowd . The Imperial Bedroom booklet that Clare had sent me was examined in exhaustive detail. All the while a paddy wagon was parked outside so we behaved ourselves.

Image

The Dooleys , you ask? Talk of 1980s pop & how some truly disposable songs permanently stick in the mind. I only had to say the word 'Wanted ' and a mass chorus went up of 'Wanted!/Girl you're everything I ever wanted!' Drink was involved.

The Paddy wagon was nothing to do with our beloved Paddy

I think the police got wind of the meet up and we were being bugged in case any secrets were let out of the bag, such as some of those illicit recordings that none of us knew anything about!
