Hoover Factory

Post by Jackson Doofster »

Board 'old timers' may have noticed that I love Hoover Factory. It's simplicity is its beauty and never has Elvis sounded so relaxed and chilled.

The sentiment of the song beguiles me also. The idea that despite its beauty, it really means nothing in the great scheme of things...like himself.

I've driven past this wonderful building many times and I've bought my lunch there and sat admiring the facade from the car.

One thing though...I've never understood the line:

"green for go, green for action,
from Park Royal to North Acton'

The Hoover Factory is not in between those locations. It's in Perivale. No wonder he moved out of London. Ne needed an A-Z. :?

He should have sung:

"From Park Royal to Uxbridge Road Viaduct"

Anyway, I found this interesting site and thought that some of you may not have seen the Hoover Building before....so here it is....

Does my memory fail me or can anyone else remember Elvis singing (or miming) this song on BBC Saturday morning children's program Swap Shop - I think when Clubland was being promoted.

Eastenders actress reveals love of fine architecture

EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace is to reveal her love of fine architecture in a highbrow BBC show.

Wallace, who plays Kat Slater, extols the virtues of the Hoover building in BBC3 series Dreamspaces.

A spokeswoman for the programme, to be shown on November 9, told TV Plus: "Jessie talks passionately about why she loves the building. She's a massive fan of the art deco period. She really likes the toilets which are particularly ornate and green.

"Jessie used to walk past the building every day when she was at drama school, and loves the period. She has lots of art deco features in her own home."

The imposing white property alongside the A40 in Greenford, Middlesex, opened as the factory and offices of the vacuum company in 1933. Recently part of it has been taken over by Tesco supermarket.

Didn't anyone notice (in the CD Graphics) that the background to Otis' dedication IS the damned factory??

Did anyone see this Dreamspaces programme last night on the Hoover Building/Factory? "It's got windows that go all the way up" was about as intelligent as it got. It did make me want to go and have another look at it while I'm down here, though. Fabulous building, reminds me of the Littlewoods Building back home: http://www.the-lightbox.com/newpix/location14.htm
