Listening to this right now, from about 1.46 on. Its introduced as promoting his show next month in Manchester and was recorded 'a while ago' , perhaps around the time Elvis was seen in Liverpool on New Years eve.

Further segments are at 2.13 & 2.26

I'm having a few doubts about this - there doesn't seem to be anything much new in the offing - we saw a lot of "A Face In The Crowd" songs during the Detour shows in May last year and the format is certainly more than a little tired imho .
I think the fact that the Imperial Bedroom shows were such a success makes me feel like the poor relation to the USA - especially since there are apparently no plans for this format in the foreseeable future. I'd at first thought that there would be more than 2 UK dates but with nothing extra announced anywhere in the world after this mini European tour, I wonder where we're going to be taken on this particular Detour ?

The only reason for this leg of the Detour tour is to make up for the cancelled concerts from May 2016.
I agree that the format is tired. But here in Belgium we have had a lot of solo concerts the last years, but not yet the Detour show (with the big television).
Also the prospect of hearing some of the A Face In The Crowd songs live, is appealing to me.
And maybe the upcoming release of the Flowers In The Dirt reissue will inspire EC to sing some of these songs live.
And also hope he takes the girls with him on tour... :)

I suspect that new dates for the Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambres tour will be announced soon. Touring key-albums seems to be the next format.
Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.

Sweetest Punch and Sulky Lad are both right.

The European shows are rearranged and the three UK shows have been slotted in to take it to other parts of the country.

I'm not bothering with them - I've seen enough Detour shows now.

Sulky - there have been quite a few US only shows in the lat 10 years. We did not get a tour to promote Momofuku for example. I think we'll get some Imperial Bedroom shows later on in the year. I doubt it will be an extensive tour as I'm not sure Elvis has the draw to sell out 20 or so dates across the country. The novelty worked for the Songbook Shows but the Imperial Bedroom shows are for the more committed.

Yes of course, agree with those reservations above, however when he played this venue on 14 July 2014 he played Dr Luther's Assistant!

Don't abandon all hope just yet!

I've no doubt it'll be a good show, and there might be the odd one-off song thrown in for good measure but the show's too samey for me.

No doubt it'll now be a new and completely revamped show

Great, terrific boozer, despite the unappealing name in these B****t times, think I owe Bradwell a pint from last time he played at BWH, and the Boy got "3 Sons" sung via a bellow-out!

I stand accused, or at least not disappointed. The sound here was as good as I've heard from the Detour shows, the balance for each guitar was spot on and Elvis was again in excellent voice. I even almost enjoyed "She"
He played beautiful guitar with the slower version of Stella Hurt and merged Cinqo Minuitos with Shipbuilding. Indeed the split was almost 50/50 guitar and piano. Again a nice dedication to the NHS , don't get me started on that subject , before winding up with Tramp The Dirt Down.
After the show a few people asked about a U.K. IB your and Elvis said there were no
Plans to fit it in between the US dates and no plans for it this year - "Go book your holidays!" He laughed - as he did when I giggled at the chap trying to get a selfie with Elvis and he pointed st me and laughed as well ! Last night tomorrow, hopefully some different stuff. The new songs, incidentally, of Stripping Wallpaperr" and "Bury Me In Lime" a had lovely melodies - I wonder if they're for A Face In The Crowd or new songs that need to be reheated on an album soon !
Good to see Colin , Misha and 10 year old Charlotte at her first EC gig, Colin TB who has seen a few more, Cocktail Murderess and Spirit Of Curiosity Stopping now before predictive text drives me looney !

Apologies for being tardy to the party.

Great show, varied setlist, loads of new (to me) songs, particularly "This Uneasy Hour" making it's UK debut, "She" with Ena Sharples as backdrop*, Scouser baiting the Mancs from the stage, touching tribute to Chuck which includes use of white gloves and an impression of Leonard Cohen, perfect acoustics - not an earpiece in sight - seats on the second row, whats not to love?

Well, since you ask, that Watching The Detectives Man was getting on my nerves early on, took EC resorting to " SHUT UP" to do the trick!

Very moving account of his aged Mum's stay in hospital (I assume the Royal Liverpool) and the wreckage being wreaked on the NHS, which gave rise to the final full frontal assault of Tramp.

Very good to see Sulky and the Gang, although I missed Colin/Misha/Charlotte, I did see Mikeh from the Board. Gutted I couldn't get to Sheffield for the final one.

On Sunday, stripped pretty much of tales from his book, Detour became simply a solo show with a wonderful backdrop.a winning format and I'll miss it. Lets hope we don't have to wait too long to see him back in front of a microphone this side of the Pond, and I hope that Larkin Poe haven't made their last tour with him 'cos they made a terrific trio.

A still smiling Colin Top Balcony * see the image on the Sheffield thread!

Also on Row B, a few seats to the right of Top Balcony. Fantastic show, totally agree acoustics were superb, unlike Sheffield where they were a bit distorted at times.

My highlight of the night was Alison without microphone, he was stood directly in front of me, superb!!!!

Really nice to say hello to a few people from our FB group "Elvis Costello Collectors". Had a really long and enjoyable chat outside after the show with Bill Storey, great night.

Philip Hayes on Facebook -
20 March

Hello my friends,
I went to see Elvis Costello last night at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, met him beforehand and chatted about the Good Samaritans album, his Mum and family
and then watched a wonderful performance by him with my mate Markos Tiris.

We also talked about the Man City draw....at the end of the show he made an impassioned speech about the
NHS currently looking after his Mum and the organisation which cared for me when I was ill....God bless the NHS
I wouldn't be here without it.

He followed this with a great acoustic version of "Tramp the dirt down..."
Maggie, Maggie, Maggie ..out, out, out,...

I will approach the World Health Organization (WHO) to seek their support.

Afterwards I spoke briefly to him about my ideas which he promised to take on board, I will speak again to him this week......expect an important announcement following our discussion.
