Mojo, your ears were at the concert - I can only answer for what I heard last year . I just wonder if Elvis' voice is erratic making it hard to get a balance. - what do you think ?
In Nottingham last year, Elvis claimed he had too much fresh air in Carlisle the night before but his voice got stronger as the night went on. Maybe the length of the show is dependent on him thinking he could sing out his vocal problems !

sl - I have no clue. I have no skills, especially around sound engineering. I would think a sound engineer would need to keep the instruments in tune, along with the vocals, which I thought were not jiving too well at the SF show. Perhaps it was the venue (not known for good sound) + sound gear/ equipment (or lack thereof). Nonetheless, I believe a good sound engineer would know how to work with both, right? Whatever, man. Don't ask me. I'm a total idiot. As a side note, I wish I was at this SD show. Epic set list. Darn!

It's hard to tell from the videos but is Elvis sporting a moustache? That would explain the pictures where he's covering his face
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?

Great show, the first review summed it up well IMO. Never seen such a rapt and attentive audience at a concert; good job fellow San Diegans! I didn't think his voice was having noticeable troubles, but what do I know?
Musical highlights for me were Clowntime is Over (on piano) and Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down w Larkin Poe. Larkin Poe were a great addition to his show and their open was excellent too.
But the real highlight to me was the autobiographical nature of the show. I hadn't been aware that the show was so intertwined with his book.... it was great to hear him tell stories and discuss the underpinnings of some of the songs. I'm only about 1/3 through the book, but having read even that much helped me a lot.
What the book does for me is remind me that Elvis was not famous from birth, and really all his formative years were in relatively modest (though very musical) surroundings.
Cheers!

Thanks for posting the vid clips. They sound way better than what I heard at the Masonic in SF. What is the size of this venue? Nonetheless, I did hear moments where the sound guy drops out a bit... that's OK, I guess. He is learning as he goes, maybe? Good for him. He has a job.
