"Priscilla was joined on the show by Elvis Costello who played a special rendition of The King's hit Don't on Presley's personal guitar from 1956."

I thought this was good. Ross looked moved by "Alison" and EC seemed on good form.

At the end Elvis watched someone peel a banana with his feet

It was great to see Priscilla Presley's face (actually) move when Elvis started singing Suspicious Minds. She perked up a bit!

In an echo of the line from The Big Light, Priscilla's absurd face looks like the whole thing is going to snap up like roller blinds. I found it amazing to see all the Elvis shots with that guitar, then Costello talking about his own Elvis Fender, and then, after Ross handling it with special gloves and care, Elvis being quite cavalier about it. I found the rendition of Alison to be as moving as Ross clearly did (wow, imagine sitting as close to him doing that, you would melt, no?), and then the little segue into Suspicious Minds, that we all know well. Perfect. This was very much how Alison was played on the solo tour, spared down but as emotionally charged as it could be.

I'd never head of Rob Beckett, but isn't he a funny chap? Elvis was smirking away next to him, bananas aside. I never bother with Ross these days, Norton is so much more fun, but so glad I caught this.

I like Rob Beckett and am seeing him tonight.

You're spot on about Elvis' cavalier attitude with the guitar.

I also loved Danny Dyer's comment along the lines of "This is a f****** moment".

I reckon the comments about Elvis not having to wear white gloves was kind of a joke , in that he could hardly have played the guitar if he wore them. Rather than say that it may have been decided to let on that he was continuing his 'punk attitude' ( or whatever) and refusing to wear them. Considering Elvis's respectful comments in numerous guitar magazine features over the years it must surely be taken for granted that he would have very careful when handling the Presley guitar.

Nice pic. It wasn't the issue about gloves that struck me so much as Ross handling it like astonishingly valuable Sevre porcelain, whereas Elvis handled it like a guitar. There was maybe a hint of irreverence there, but then he was about to play it, so why not?

There was an amazing confluence of his personal history (the joke name, the song he's played live the most) and musical history there, allied to a great song performance. So glad I didn't miss it, Danny Dyer's quote was absolutely right!

Classic moment from this , which , I gather , Elvis mentioned on stage during his recent show in Sheffield.
