London meet up - Saturday 22nd August

Post by verbal gymnastics »

To tie in with John coming to London, a meet up has been arranged on Saturday 22nd August.

Unfortunately a few people are on holiday or at weddings or aren't able to make it but so far John, Sheeptotheslaughter and myself are all around.

Would anyone else care to join us? I've got a few Detour reports to tell and I need to bore some other people with them.

I suspect it will be the usual 2pm at the Two Chairmen in Trafalgar Square unless somebody would like to suggest an alternative.

Great indeed.

Let's go with the usual 2pm at the Two Chairmen.

If anyone has Mr Getgood's phone number or email address perhaps they could contact him. When I saw him at Basingstoke he said he wanted to come to the next meet up.

Starting at 2 , with lightweights like me usually backing out at about 5.30 or so. I've only today learnt that I have to return to Dublin that evening so I'll, alas, definitely be leaving just as Neil starts doing songs from Cats - one day I will be around for that treat. :D :D

Cheers John. Like I say, supposd to be working in Greater London till 5. Was going to try and bail out a few hours early and get up to town, but colleagues a bit thin on the ground due to holiday season so will have to play it by ear.

Just to confirm that I have booked an area upstairs at the front of the Two Chairmen pub for Forum members from 2pm until 6pm. The pub has no other evening bookings, so they are not going to throw us out at that time, but just wanted an indication of when we might be leaving. The usual hot and cold food menu will be available along with a supply of crisps....

See you all there.

Sorry guys, I can't make this one. Have fun, and I'll hopefully see most of you at the London Steve N gig.

In the end it was just me, VG & MOOT (+friend) . It's a bad time of the year considering holidays , family things etc. It was mainly because I was in London for other things that it was arranged. We had great old chin wag, mostly about Bruce's book , anticipated Elvis's book & so on. It was so hot in London , hard to imagine today here in rainy & cold Dublin.

I enjoyed Petra Haden's show on Friday , and also got to the show of memorabilia related to The Jam at Somerset House. This grumpy note from 1979 is especially amusing.

Just to mention that the Two Chairmen pub, just off Trafalgar Square, has now closed.

Clearly our decision not to hold the last Fan Forum meet up there, was the last straw for the pub's management who have thrown in the towel. It may reopen, and I will keep you updated. In the meantime, there is the Merchant of Bishopsgate.

Rumoured to be turning into flats. Bloody hell. If a pub in that location can't keep the developers at bay there's no hope.

if you get the chance to watch "Killing Eve" on the BBC Iplayer, you will note (in episode 2) that Eve's new office shown to her by Fiona Shaw's character, just off Trafalgar Square, is opposite what was the Two Chairmen.
