Anarchy in Manchester - So It Goes

Post by verbal gymnastics »

The Sky Arts 1 channel is showing highlights from the 1970s show on Friday nights at 10.30.

This Friday's show has The Stranglers, Nick Lowe, The Clash and John Cooper Clarke.

I also read that the show will have Elvis. Whether that's this week or another week I don't know.

Elvis was onstage with Nick for "Endless Sleep", at least. Keep an eye out!

Various Tweets are saying that Nick Lowe's appearance on tonight's show had Elvis in his backing band.

A Channel 4 compilation of footage has Elvis with Nick , at about 54 minutes , dated in a test card as Sept 1977.

A great little programme with a few real gems.
Nick Lowe playing a very upbeat "Shake and Pop" with an extremely enthusiastic Elv in the band on guitar giving it everything he had !
Also a classic, typical, "early Elvis young angry man" singing Lip Service full of guts and passion.
Both these performances were full of energy and well worth watching. Brilliant ! 8)
Finally JCC with "why no nipple in the Daily Express"! The man's a genius !
I think there's more Elv to come in this weeks show so look out for it !

You are right Elvis is on it again this week. And JCC is a genius. He was support with Richard Hell on the first Elvis gigs I went to late 78 and early 79.

All the clips seem to be at Erics in Liverpool.

If you have a talktalk YouView box you get Sky Arts for free.

Just watched last weeks episode and again it was excellent !
It started off with Tony Wilson introducing a clip of a young Elv singing No Dancing by saying ............"good luck and get to it , to 23 year old computer operator Elvis Costello as he goes off to start an assault on the States in San Francisco. New Wave versus New World. How can he fail with songs like..........No Dancing "
Then followed a very gritty and sweaty performance. Superb.
Also later was "Detectives" which was equally as good.
It really has been a brilliant series with many classic clips.
Unfortunately I'm not techno enough  to post any links to the series for those of you who haven't seen it, but it is on the Sky Go online, or hopefully someone can put a link here for others to watch. It's well worth watching !

Does anyone record broadcasts anymore? I know this material has been released commercially (except for Shake and Pop), but would still like to see them in context and with intros, etc. Come on, UK folks!
