We’ve long been fans of the legendary Elvis Costello. He’s been consistently acing hits since his angry-young-man days of 1977 and his sound has evolved over the decades, while always retaining his unique EC flavour. He’s currently touring worldwide – which is where we come in.

Accidents will happen

In the build-up stages of the Australian leg of this year’s tour, the team started to see evidence that the word wasn’t getting out as it should. Ticket sales were slow in some quarters, and in sunny Adelaide promoters were forced to cancel a show, stating that “less than anticipated ticket sales have unfortunately made it impossible to proceed”. Cue: rabid outcry from devoted fans, who claimed they had not been aware that the show was taking place at all. How does this happen in this day and age, you ask? Aside from the usual local billboards, print and radio ads, Elvis Costello has over 500,000 Facebook fans. He tweets almost daily to his near-64,000 followers. His website is frequently updated. News of the tour was out there – if you knew where to see it.

Pump it up

As we have discussed, in this era of data overload, news easily gets lost in the melee. You might never hear that radio ad, or read that magazine, or walk down that street with the billboard on it. Tweets slip down the timeline faster than anyone can read them, and it’s well publicised that Facebook is reducing the proportion of fans who organically receive page updates. So… what?

Our aim is true

Good old email, that’s what. Elvis Costello made the wise decision to take control of the situation by re-engaging with his fans via email, with our help. We designed an email template in keeping with the design ethic of Elvis’ website. We implemented responsive design to ensure fans got the best experience whether they opened the email on a computer, tablet or a mobile. Simple. Everyone who wants to know what Elvis Costello is up to can now not only have the information delivered fresh to their inbox, but it will be attractively and effectively presented too.

Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.
