What is in your opinion the best cover EC makes within that series of CDs called "Such unlikely covers"?

I have to confess I feel some weakness for the ABBA "Knowing me knowing you"´s cover, introducig Hammond organ and more powerful electric guitars. I really love ABBA and I have always read Costello saying it was one of his main influences, years before they were all the rage (the other one who claimed the same was, surprisingly, Bruce Springsteen, I remember).

"Ferry ´cross the Mersey", softly turning to be Tiny steps at his final part, is another favourite of mine.

The live version of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood is fantastic..so is the Ferry Cross the Mersey/Tiny Steps Medley...The covers of Pretty in Pink and If She Knew What She Wants...are some unique offerings too...

EC will sing anything once I think....

I found a CD a while back called Good Year for the Roses, with the originals of loads of the songs he's covered. It's top quality!

I´ve just downloaded From head to toe, by The Escorts, and I have discovered how respectul EC is in this case with the original version.

Hey, LaughingCrow: do you know if that CD of originals would be available on Amazon or some of this big trading sites?

Springsteen influenced by Abba? Never! He's been playing since the 60's. His first album came out in '73.

You're probably thinking of Bono of U2... he claimed ABBA to be a big influence. They even got Benny and Bjorn of ABBA to performing "Dancing Queen" with them on stage.

EC should do Party Hard by Pulp.

I always thought they had excellent videos, but just found out that they're directed by Jarvis Cocker himself. So I played a bunch of them again that I'd taped, including Party Hard, and was bowled over again by how good their songs as well as their videos are. It would be cool if EC did Pulp.

His cover of "Substitute" is great, especially where he kinda forgets the words.

And "Anyone Who Had A Heart" is nice and I always really liked when he covered "He'll Have To Go."

One of my favorite covers isnt on this one, but "What I Like About You (Is Your Girlfriend)" is a lot of fun, his voice sounds so un-Elvis for some reason.

We've had this before. My fave is Hopelessly Devoted to You.

I used to love it when he'd just do one off covers. I think he said the band would get bored and knock up songs in the soundcheck and play them that night. Looking at old setlists he used to do some songs for maybe a few nights and then you'd never see them played again.

I was actually talking -in the case of Springsteen- about being influenced by. In fact, I am the one to be surprised: I´ve read several times BS statements about it, but I am absolutely unable to find any link between the music of the Boss and the music of the Swedish.

I like all of the covers I have stumbled upon with that Title...Such Unlikey Covers....though, I wouldn't have any idea how to get them off of the internet....

Such Unlikely Covers is a pretty well circulated Bootleg..it's not easy to get the tracks off the internet...

But there are several Bootleg trading sites on Yahoo...that are worth looking into..

I know I have that CD...and the Plugging the Gaps collection...and the The Great Unknown..

OK...I have way too many Costello bootlegs..but I'm a completist...I can't help it.
