5.45pm - access for disabled guests
6pm - general admissions
6.40pm - supporting artist
7.30pm - special guest artist
8.40pm - headline artist
10.15pm - music finishes with a spectacular firework finale

That's all very well, but what time does VG's dancing start ?

I caved in and bought a ticket for Kew. Never been keen on general admission gigs, but seeing as there will be no other EC gigs in London this summer I thought bugger it!

I've read his solo shows go on for 2.5 hours, but Kew's schedule says he'll be done by 10:15pm. Is that the definite curfew set by Kew or do we reckon EC might finish later? I wish I knew because I'm taking a huge risk and hoping to get the last train home into Kent. I need to be back at Victoria by midnight for that train or I'm stranded. No budget for a hotel.

FrankieJ - I can't see the show going on later than 10.15pm as scheduled. If there's a firework display then it'll start on time. I should think there are strict access and exit restrictions.

I saw Larkin Poe last night and spoke to Rebecca and Megan who said supporting Elvis was great fun and that Elvis had requested that they be added to the bill.

With his brothers and Larkin Poe there, there is a great chance of collaborations with both.

What time is everybody arriving? I don't want to wait around all day and get sore feet or a numb bum, but I don't want to arrive too late and be right at the back. I'm a first timer to general admission concerts.
Has anyone here been to Kew The Music before? Do people normally rush to the front straight away as soon as the doors open in the afternoon? Shame it seems when you fit in the support acts and the 10:15pm curfew it looks like the show will be a short one.

I'll be in London by lunchtime that day. I'm coordinating with a few others at this stage but it seems likely a few of us will be meeting up at a location somewhere near Kew at about mid afternoon. When something more specific is decided it will be posted here.

If the weather is nice Wednesday Mrs Sheep and I may make a day of it and spend some time in Richmond/Kew. We were thinking about getting the boat from Westminster pier. So we maybe about in the late afternoon/early evening. I have to meet my cousin and two friends later but if we find a plot I can tell there where we are.

I see there is a pub on the tube station platform at Kew.

From Elvis' lies & inventions section -

1969

First public performance, as an unpaid floor singer", at the Lamplight Folk Club, Richmond in the basement of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.

This is kind of near Kew, isn't it? I'm thinking of making a side trip to it on Wednesday afternoon before the show. Anyone else on for it?

I'm new here, but I'm going!

Open to ticket holders from 6pm. What would be a good time to arrive for a decent distance to the stage? 4pm?

Do you reckon there'll be a merch stand?

EXCITED!! :D

Actually it probably doesn't matter about queuing outside for so long because if I nab a space near the stage I am, at some point, going to need the loo. The loos are apparently situated right at the back. *shrug* *head explodes* I don't know.

There'll be stands selling food and drink and souvenirs of Kew and probably some John Lewis picnic stuff (as they're the sponsor), but I doubt they'll be selling EC merchandise. Like we need any more of it...

Elvis Costello pumps it up with his brothers for first gig in 40 years on home turf

London Evening Standard
15 July 2014

Elvis Costello will tomorrow return to home ground after more than 40 years to headline a bill with his family for the first time.

Costello will play Kew Gardens, not far from where he grew up in Twickenham, and is making it a family affair with two of his younger siblings, Ruairi and Ronan MacManus, known as the MacManus Brothers, also in the line-up.

“It’s the first time we’ve been scheduled together. It is curious. And it is probably the closest to the home parish that any of us could imagine,” he said today.

The singer-songwriter of hits such as Oliver’s Army, Alison and Pump It Up was born Declan Patrick MacManus and spent his youth in Twickenham, the son of Ross MacManus, a band leader and musician who played with the Joe Loss Orchestra among others, and Lilian, who sold records.

Costello, 59, made his first public appearance in a folk club in the basement of St Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in nearby Richmond in about 1969 but hasn’t played a local gig since. He has four half-brothers by his father’s second marriage and they share “common musical ground — it’s just inherited”. They become even closer since their father’s death three years ago.

“There is the potential for quite a bit of harmonising,” he said.

“Often when people are related to each other, when you harmonise there’s a kind of spooky thing that happens. We didn’t grow up together as kids and had never sung together but when I heard Ruairi, he sounded uncannily like me on my early records.”

They can all remember their father touring with his band when they were young, Costello said, adding: “It was different from my friends’ dads. Exactly when their dads were coming home, dad went to work. I think being around music when you’re a kid makes it ordinary and exceptional at the same time.”

Costello said he was thrilled to be appearing in Kew the Music Summer Concerts, adding “It’s a different atmosphere outdoors.”

Right now I'm planning on being at Richmond tube station at 3 tomorrow afternoon , with the intention of going to see St Elisabeths Church . All welcome! We can take our time, find somewhere to sit around and then , maybe , go on to Kew Gardens. I e-mailed the church's site regarding accessing to the basement hall - location of Elvis' first gig - but got no reply. Lets see what happens.

It looks like it's going to be a very hot day. Please can you let me know what you're wearing so that I can colour match my mankini accordingly.

The leopard skin and zebra striped ones are looking favourites at the moment.
