November 22 2009 Operating System Upgrade

Post by DrSpooky »

Hi,

I performed a major operating system upgrade today. Sparing everyone the details, there were problems during the upgrade which resulted in me having to spend some extra effort getting the site and wiki back up. I think things are OK now but just in case, you have all been warned.

Please let myself or Spooky know if something doesn't seem right.

Thanks.

There are still a few updates left to install and I will try to get to them over the long holiday weekend. So intermediate downtime is to be expected.

I just loaded an update to The Board software. There are some updates to the Wiki software which need to be made and one more operating system update.

So one down and a couple more to go over the next few days.

After the operating system upgrade, there was a brief period where you might have seen errors from The Board. i think they are resolved now.

It is currently downloading some updates and will automatically reboot when they are loaded. Hopefully that will be the end of this phase.

After things settle, on to the Wiki upgrades. :)

Let me know if there are issues.

Hi again,

Yesterday (Thursday) I think I completed the upgrade/update activities. I upgraded the Wiki to the latest version of Mediawiki. I stayed up late last night figuring out why the automated backups were not working and fixed that.

While looking in the logs for other issues, I noticed that there are more than a few automated attacks on the site. I do not think it is specific to us. It is just hackers trying to find some site that doesn't keep up to date. I already had a script that banned sites trying some types of attacks and those IP addresses trying automated attacks against "The Board" software. I will try to keep an eye out for similar issues over the weekend.

If you see any issues, please contact Spooky or I.

Happy Holidays!!!

Thanks again for all your work.

All seems fine except 'View active topics' doesn't work, for me at least.
