100,000th Post Countdown

Post by DrSpooky »

Hi,

Any guesses on

+ when will that magic 100,00th post happen?
+ who will make?
+ what topic?

Shame we count join the countdown! How about a little number box on the index screen?!?

SL will say it will probably be me, writing pointlessly about Ron Sexsmith at 1am, but I'm away for a few days and may not be around for it. So I'll say:

Mr Average
Song title game
Los Lobos song title

My guess would be

Professor Plum
In the conservatory
With the lead piping.

I think DrSpooky should indulge himself and be the 100,000th poster and post about a site upgrade. Alternatively it will be MDM on the song titles thread posting a John Prine title.

Or perhaps Elvis himself will post a congratulatory note

We are now over 99,500 posts!!! It shouldn't be long now.

When will the odometer roll over?

Who will be driving?

What will they be saying, wearing, and/or listening to?

Will it occur quietly or will there be global meltdown as was expected for Y2K?

What? Take a closer look at the song title thread and rerank the posters and you'll quickly see that I am probably not in the top 5. Maybe 5, but I doubt it.

I think I have posted three Los Lobos titles. They are a great band.

But, to enhance your credulity, I will do my best to find a los lobos title and, eschewing sleep, wait with index finger hovering over the submit key at the magical minute.

Most likely poster = Who Shot Sam
Category = What are you Listening to Right Now?
Topic = Think of the most obscure recording that you can imagine, triple it, and raise it to a power of 10. That is the 100,000 post

....either that, or WSS, wake up you footy fans, something about a guy with lots of vowels in his last name heading in the winning goal against United, or some such deal

At the time of writing, there are 99,634 posts (99,635 after this one). I wonder if I can get the total number to 100,000 in the next hour  That's only 6 a minute and then a final flurry of a dozen or so.

I was sure that when I came back the 100,000th post would have been written.

I'll now be keeping a constant vigil so I can be that lucky 100,000th poster (unless s/he has already been chosen  ).

Will there be a ceremony?

If it's UK daytime in the week, you get it. If it's midnight UK time or maybe the weekend, it's me. Or WSS, or Blue, or... actually, it could get like the closing minute on a hotly fought over item on eBay.

Spooky just noticed that the ticker is not at 100,009. I am going to do some magic to see what was the 100,000th post. I missed the sirens. :)

They'll have to share the magnum, It might get a bit flat in transit. I didn't realise you could count on the index screen. Damn, I missed my opportunity. I thought SL was just being silly. I'll have to be more attentive come 200,000, or perhaps 250,000 as a more signifcant thing.

So Lack, why the hell would you have gone to bed with one post left? Why wouldn't you just have done it yourself? Crazy, dude!

I told Doc that I wasn't certain he could have nailed it down like that, but he gave me some technical crap and said he had figured it out. I'd be happy to challenge him to a debate about it. 8)

I can tell you that it was going to be me but I wasn't online at the right time. But apart from that...

And anyway, I'm after that sought after 100,040 post. Which I have now got so hooray for me!

it was my bedtime and I was worn out after the previous 57 posts. Plus I didn't think I could handle the spotlight and applause and all the trappings that will go with it. I don't think RTHTW knows what he has let himself in for - he will forever be known as the poster who posted the 100,000th post. whereas I will continue to be known as that wanker who does the wanker threads.

Aww, too bad, SL, I was going to ask where to send all your prizes.
