Replacing Hard Drive

Postby DrSpooky » Sun Sep 27, 2020 8:11 am

The hard drive used for backups is dying. I ordered a replacement drive and it arrived yesterday. I copied everything that new drive over night and will be shutting the server down for a while to swap out the dying drive with the new one.

Hopefully this will occur quickly enough and without any issues so no one will notice any down time.

Doc - as ever I can’t thank you enough.

Can we contribute?

You are more than welcome to. Spooky and I don't push for donations. But they are appreciated and offset ongoing and on-time costs.

There is the ongoing cost of Internet service which was kicked up by a factor of four early in the pandemic. The hardware costs are sporadic like this time when a hard drive started to fail. I don't recall how old the current server itself is but probably should check on that.

The board has 17 years of history and the Wiki is simply huge. It may be one of the best fan sites based on the information contained for any musician.

Hi Doc

Thanks.

Just a couple of questions:

1. How much did the hard drive cost?
2. How do we donate?

Likewise. Not much, but hopefully every little helps. Good to get this thread out there. My own (external) hard-drive died a few weeks ago. Bought a new one and took both round to my 'IT guy' in the hope that he could rescue the content of the dead one and transfer it to the new one. Socially distanced of course. I wasn't actually on my knees on his driveway, sobbing 'please save my music' but I might as well have been. :D
