Rank My Aim Is True

Face the music: Rank the songs from My Aim Is True from best to worst (read: favourite - least favourite). Face the facts: Watching The Detectives is on CD1 of the latest reissue, so it's IN. If you don’t rank ALL the songs that are on MY list (English & American versions) I will put in the miss...

Yes, the new Ron is as incredible as the first three. I just bought a record by a guy I know nothing about, Devendra Banhart's "Rejoicing In The Hands," after hearing about five seconds of it in a small record store, and it's incredible. It's totally original and at the same time sounds li...

It's definitely worth normal full price.
I can't believe the space in Bill Frisell's guitar work. It adds another dimension to Love Field and Poor Napoleon especially. Great examples of less is more when compared to the originals.

Goodbye Cruel World isn't necessarily Elvis' worst collection of songs, but it's the worst mistreatment of them, so I'll go with that one. (Kojak Variety escapes the slot owing to very low pretensions. Punch The Clock's sound suits its fine pop songs very well, in my book. The Juliet Letters and Spi...

Mr Thompson may be my favourite songwriter, and is by far the best guitarist I know - no, make that instrumentalist. These two really go hand in hand, too; his solos really extend the meanings/emotions of his songs. Not like his lyrics aren't good enough on their own, either - I think John Cougar Me...

Doesn't people generally like "Soul For Hire"? My few EC pals do. Deserves to be played at least once on Ally McBeal. "Dissolve" isn't as popular as that one, for what I understand, so I'd say that's the underrated one. Would have been cool to hear that wild harmonica and vocal s...

I really like the fast version of This Year's Girl, but then again I'm a bit of a speedfreak. The alternative B Movie was really good live when played faster too. Does anyone know if Elvis only ate amphetamines on tour, and that's part of the reason why those early Attractions albums sound comparati...

I think I Want You and Alibi are both really well-written songs to begin with, and the bands' wonderfully understated playing on both makes them even better recordings. Alibi does suffer a little from being the younger (less original) track, but the lyrics aren't that similar except for the format. ...

My Back With A Vengeance bootleg says he did it at Shepherd's Bush Empire too (same tour). During the Brutal Youth tour he used to sing a verse or two of Chelsea in mid-Lipstick Vogue, which I thought sounded great. The words to My Funny Valentine may appear at the end of almost anything long, and s...
