Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Well, I could write a long review of the record but I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm not over keen on 'My Lovely Jezebel' and 'The Spell that you Cast' but it's a fucking great record. I haven't enjoyed an EC CD this much in years. What's not to like? My top 5 are all fantastic: Bullets for the New...

Re: Steve Nieve joins Squeeze

The last time I saw Squeeze was when Chris Holland was on keyboards and I thought he was simply playing to formula. Definitely a weak link after the years of Jools and Paul Carrack. Steve should add another dimension. 8)

Can you self-harmonise with anyone else?

"The Huston Kid" is a solid, sound record. A favorite of mine. Some very intelligent, and I think honest, writing on that record. I'll give it a go then! 8) Let us know what you think. Obviously, I rate it extremely highly, but people I've gifted copies to have generally responded very fa...

Re: Elvis's last great album

I'll never understand the antipathy levelled towards North. It's such a moving and emotional record. If you've ever had your heart broken or have fallen in love when you shouldn't have, this record should be so easy to relate to. :? Easily his best record of the noughties for me.

Re: Elvis's last great album

(If I could make one wish about his future recordings, it would be this: PFM through SP&SC are notable for how little he employs "self-harmonies" on record. Part of this is because he has Davey or Jim Lauderdale to harmonize with him now, so he can do more "live in the studio&quo...

Re: Elvis's last great album

"Greatness" is a difficult word to quantify. I love/admire/cherish many parts of virtually every Elvis record, but when I think of his truly GREAT albums, I don't think he's had one since King of America. In my mind, that was the last time he put out a truly indispensable, balls-to-the-wa...

I really agree with this...although I still quite like PTC.

Re: Elvis's last great album

Very interesting and not long-winded at all PD.

Agree with you on a lot of this, especially with regard to WIWC. It is on of the few EC records I rarely play, with the exception of 2 tracks - Episode of Blonde and My Little Blue Window. I too failed to see the point of Dust 2 :?

Elvis's last great album

Ok, so the man has recorded some great songs in the past few years, but what was his last truly great album?

I loved North and I can appreciate TDM, bu his last brilliant record for me was Painted From Memory.

Views welcomed. 8)

The good news is that Robin Van Rapist looks sharp enough to put 2-3 past Citeh for us.

Now that is what I would call irony...Arse helping us into the Champs League. 8)

Re: Wake up you footy fans!!!

Well, we should have beaten Pompey who defended resolutely and broke excellently. That is not Arsenal's style , so it will be a different game. However, the confidence has been well and truly battered in the past 2 weeks. Maybe Arse, Chelsk and Man U are exactly what we do need. No expectations etc....

Man City and Liverpool with very winnable games and I have a little hunch that we m...
