Second outing for "The Comedians"-- do we have report on which version he's performing. my guess: original lyrics, but without the tricky time signature of the LP recording.

Re: Girls Talk by E.C. & 'A.Pulkkinen' ?

It's almost certainly unrelated, but I've long been curious about the lyric that was unique to the chorus of Dave Edmund's version of "Girls Talk" ("It's a more or less situation inspired by girls talk"), and later carried over onto Linda Ronstadt's version. Is it an EC lyric, or...

The Electric Fetus' website lists the CD and DVD as new releases today. No mention of any LP (as expected). They must have just not gotten the update about the rescheduled release date.

Re: Elvis 'n Burt Bacharach writing Austin Powers musical?

I'm fuzzy on the details, but wasn't it reported several years ago that EC & Burt were collaborating on new songs for... um, some female artist whose name I've forgotten. John Foyle, do you still have the link? In any case, it doesn't seem like that project came to fruition, so maybe the songs ...

Re: S.O.S. 2 live questions WANT YOU intro MAN OUT outro

It's my theory that the "Oh my baby" intro was once a completely different song (likely unfinished), and got welded to "I Want You" belatedly during the B&C sessions, a la "Cry Baby Cry" and "Take Me Back" (and not entirely dissimilar to the "Strawber...

While not a rare song by any means, "Shipbuilding" returns to the wheel for the first time since July. http://twitpic.com/6vpr7u/full The death of David Bedford , who arranged the strings for the Punch the Clock recording, was announced yesterday. Coincidence? It's funny. Chet Baker's per...

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.

What I find most frustrating is the idea that the success or failure of this set may be used to gauge the market for future ambitious catalog projects. There are many uber-Deluxe packages that could be created from the Costello catalog. You can easily devise massive and wonderful sets around albums ...

Re: "Suffering Face"

Songs like this and King of Confidence are awesome and would make almost anybody's album. However I also can't see how songs of this calibre got left off the album when the mess that is Eisenhower Blues did. But Elvis' justification is that it gave the album a kick amongst the ballads. I think the ...

Re: "Suffering Face"

The league of people who could afford to leave the likes of "Suffering Face" and "King Of Confidence" off of an album is very small indeed. Actually, it's an interesting question: who can compete with Elvis in terms of the amount of top drawer material relegated to b-sides and b...

Re: Why does Costello & Nieve feature The Long Honeymoon twi

That's a good question, Stuart. There has never been an explanation, AFAIK. Originally, it wasn't intended as a commercial release, rather as five separate promos to serve the markets in which each show was originally played. So, redundancy wouldn't have been such a big issue under those circumstanc...

My only disappointment is that EC happened to chose this show not to play "Punishing Kiss", which was a highlight of the other Metropole performances and would have been a useful addition to the discography.

Is the band doing a full version of Purple Rain now? Also is it Your Cheating Heart or is it You win again (or something else for that matter) during Alison? "Purple Rain" was a stand-alone performance that I recall as being more or less complete. In fact, most of the medleys were of what...
