Let's do it Spanish style (in Spain the birthday celebrant buys!). Well, that only seems fair. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Some of my presents arrived today; my baby son and I are enjoying them and dancing about to "Slow Down" on the "Trust" reissue. Old chicks (and little b...

"Red Sails in the Sunset"? Is that different than "Black Sails in the Sunset" then? . . . . There is a song called Red Sails In The Sunset, but I don't know that Elvis has ever done it. Nat King Cole has, and Perry Como, I believe. I requested Black Sails, as well, and will simp...

Always reminded me of my parents' old Tom Lehrer records. Thought for a long time that the line was "Meet me in the kitchen and I'll meet you in the hall.". Beat makes more sense. Sort of a happy White Knuckles.

Oily Slick: I didn't look it up; maybe I should, to confirm if the song that I have in my head is the one in question. The one in my head is Gardel. My tango fetish is now revealed.... "Thought I knew all the steps quite clearly, I don't have a clue." For me, this is a song about waiting too long to do something, waiting for the "right time" to arrive, and having life pass you by while you are trying too hard to figure it out. Love the live version with just El...

If I remember the song correctly, I think it's 'Por Una Cabeza', by Carlos Gardel.

Is this one of the shows where the callers get to talk to the artist, or are the requests relayed by the host?

I *love* Piano Jazz. It's on Sunday nights in these parts.

I never thought I would listen to Elvis Costello on Piano Jazz, though. I don't really know what to think about that.

But I'll be listening....

Gee, pophead, it sounds like you've had a rough year. I'm sorry. I hope things get better for you. To answer your question, I don't think that perspective comes only from negative situations. The biggest reality check I ever had came to me under the most joyful of circumstances, and that was the bir...

Dr J-- A word of advice on the tiles--don't get rid of the extra ones. Put them away some place, because someone is bound to drop something heavy (read 'beer bottle') on the floor and crack your expensive tile floor. Now that you are all into tile, you will want it to match, and your particular mode...

BWAP- I lived in the Denver/Boulder area for a long time. It is, indeed, a terrific place, and we get homesick occasionally. I miss that beautiful sky (the non-polluted, non-winter sky, anyway) more than anything else. Mountain oysters used to be, and likely still are, one of those 'dare' foods that...

The photographs alone are worth the price of the books.
