Re: EC's Discography: Top to Bottom

Wow! This is really interesting--how different people react to the same music. For what it's worth, here is my list (based on how I'm feeling today--I'm sure I could rearrange the same albums a thousand times and still come up with a good list). I can see I definitely rank "Old Elvis" abov...

Re: A polite introduction

In the past two years ,as I have matured I have found Elvis Costello and developed a passion for his music and I have been feverishly consuming his discography ever since. Hi Ryan! Nice to meet you! I'm rather new here also and my story is pretty much the same as yours--for the past 2 years I have ...

Re: Reposting: The Costello Show: A Burlesque Tribute Elvis!

Went to this and it was really fun! I'm sure they'll do it again soon and I highly recommend it to any of you in the NYC area. The live band sounded great and was a very credible approximation of The Attractions. Broadway Brassy sang a couple of numbers, including a smokin' version of "Either S...

Re: opinion re: DIFFERENT versions SUGARCANE tour please

What about "Brilliant Mistake"? I thought that was pretty different from the KOA version. And "There's a Story in Your Voice" seemed somewhat changed from the DM version, plus obviously lacked Lucinda Williams. "Blame it on Cain" also was quite a bit more country-ized. ...

Re: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane Reviews

I'm sure if he wanted a hit record of some sort this decade, he would have made it by now.
Yes--clearly he hated being a rock star, but loves being a musician. He's fashioned an excellent career for himself. And he's survived, even perhaps thrived, in a brutal industry.

Re: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane Reviews

OK. Point well taken--I'll stop howling. But before I do, here are just a few tidbits gleaned from recent reviews of SP&S. Most of this comes from overall positive reviews... "Costello resorts to bellowing" "cringe-worthy" "frequently fussy" "several tedious, s...

I can't get on Dime, but the link I posted above is great! Nice MP3s, which sound very good, of the entire concert. I made myself a couple of CDs for the car and I've been enjoying the Beacon show all over again. That guy's blog--Burning Wood--is very good, by the way. He makes lots of fun, free dow...

Re: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane Reviews

You know what? I am sick to death of all these bullshit semi-professional "reviewers" who are really just idiot 18 year olds, blogging from their Nana's basement. Likewise for all these bitter, halfwit "music journalists" who never managed to turn their fantasy about shredding th...

Re: well, what do you think of

Am I the only one old enough to remember? Or the only one sad enough to know the lyrics? No, I am also sufficiently old & sad. Initially I thought of that insipid song by Def Leppard and was surprised Elvis would bother to quote a band so far beneath him. But then I remembered The Archies--quot...

Here's more from a blogger quoted above by Mr. Foyle. The blogger, "Marky", has some things to say about Mr. Foyle saying some things about him... So a few weeks ago I talked about how at work I wrote a script for Elvis Costello's show called Spectacle...Elvis Costello with... Elvis, himse...

I'm just surprised that you can reach billboard number 13 in the US with those figures
Or be #6 on Amazon. I would have thought Amazon sells 33,000 albums every second.

Yes. I am curious also. I have read so many times about the unfinished opera. Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't know, but why didn't he finish it? Rift with the Danes? Too busy? What?
