Also near the end of PL&U too, I think.

Anyone recognize the riff Steve plays during the band intro later in Chelsea?

Re: Request for links to seviceable boots

Trawl through here: http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Category:Audio_files There are loads of good FM soundboard shows from USA tours 1977/78, I'd recommend the San Fran early and late shows of 15 November 77 and the Crawling through the USA bootleg. 79 - I stand accused bootleg is ok, be...

Re: Favorite Elvis Costello Song?

I thought it was sung from the point of view of the girl, to the soldier. In fact I always thought the first two verses were EC singing as the girl as well, though I never knew what to make of "holy coat" (thought it was along the lines of Sunday best/church clothes). Your post has shed a...

Re: Favorite Elvis Costello Song?

Sleep of the just would be a favourite, too. I've always thought of it as one of his more straightforward-ish lyrics He intro'd it in 86 by explaining the first and second verses were based on a real incident when he and Cait took a bus to a music festival in north-west Ireland. The bus strayed acro...

Favourite tweet:

Dublin full of referendum posters on how austerity isn't working but €6.50 for a small beer in the O2. Bit of a disconnect somewhere.

Re: Elvis/'Spinning/Dublin, May 9 '12 -promo. interview

Interesting reviews from the two of you. It must be quite difficult for The Imposters to keep up their enthusiasm given that this show has overall seen quite a number of dates so far with more to come. They're on stage the best part of 3 hours so there must be a lot of dead time. Elvis' 3 hour stin...

Re: Elvis/'Spinning/Dublin, May 9 '12 -promo. interview

I mostly enjoyed the show but wouldn't go overboard about it. It does have an odd dynamic and whilst the song choice is good, after about an hour I had a strange sense that something was lacking. Spoke with my mate on the way home (he's also a long-time fan) and he reckons its that there's a "t...

This one from Wet Wet Wet always reminds me of the Attractions...probably because of the hint of the riff from Blue Chair:

Re: Other artists' songs that remind you of EC

There was a bit of an Attractions feel about the Boomtown Rats in the early 80's, especialy the keyboard sound:

EC turned up on the first episode of the BBC prog I mentioned a couple of posts back... talking about fairly obscure 60's bands who went to the USA. Should be avauilable still on the BBC iPlayer

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .

Not sure if this is the right thread, but there's a documentary on BBC 4 this Friday about the British pop "invasion" of the US, the trailer for which features a brief clip of EC from (I think) the 1977 Saturday Night Live appearance.

Re: I Want You

For me, it became a great song when I heard it live at the Royalty in 1986. He changed the vocal, going high and anguished on the "did you call his name out as he held you down?", and then finished off with the off mic, no band vocal.
