Re: Elvis (solo) plays San Sebastián (Spain), June 6th, 2016

Am I mistaken, or is that Costello/Nieve "I Want You" a rarity, at the very least? This song was played by Elvis and Steve many times on the 1999 " Lonely World Tour " and again on their 2003 European Tour. A full list of performances of this song is here: Performances of I Want...

Re: Elvis added to Prince tribute show, NY March 7th '13

I've always viewed "Georgie and Her Rival" as Costello's take on Prince's "I Could Never Take the Place Of Your Man".

I'm probably entirely mistaken.
Nonetheless -- both are tremendous, under-rated pop songs.

Re: Elvis (solo) plays San Francisco, March 30 2016

The sound guy is fine. It was the venue. And even then, it didn't really get compromised until the three of them where onstage. That's really when it went downhill. Trying to mix mandolin, guitar, slide, Elvis screaming, and 3-part harmonies in that barn is probably impossible. The night before soun...

Re: Elvis (solo) plays San Francisco, March 30 2016

The sound problem was inherent to the venue.

The place is cavernous -- high overhead.
The house equipment seems to be an attempt to compensate.
(Heavy-handed.)
It wasn't all that bad -- but, yeah, it had its problems.

Santa Rosa sounded really good.

Re: 10 year anniversary of "Painted From Memory"

I adore this recording, warts and all. It's okay to complain about Elvis' voice, but for me it only adds to the sincerity of the recording. These are not easy songs to sing. Try it yourself, and see if you can even keep your breath. No person with a "beautiful" voice could do any better, ...

Re: Unfaithful Music & Soundtrack album, Oct 2015

I was thinking the same thing, John. (Regarding alternate tracks, not necessarily alternate takes.) I figured that I had been listening to too much live stuff, and that my aural memory of certain studio tracks was degraded -- but that's not like me, generally. I have a pathological auditory recall, ...
