Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

Looks like my Deluxe Armed Forces has been lost in transit. Went to check the tracking link (which worked before) and now I get an error saying the tracking information cannot be found.

I'm in Australia so it would take a while to get here.

Re: Fuji~Rama: new Steve Nieve album

It's quite difficult to get vinyl pressed these days - there's not many places that do it and it's expensive. No doubt there are other artists ahead of Steve in the queue. I know it says "we've started pressing" but that's surely a euphemism. Pressing plants service lots of clients. Rememb...

Re: New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums!!

Whilst I quite enjoyed the singing of La Marisol on Cinco Minutos Con Vos on Wise Up Ghost, this idea just makes me cringe - Elvis' voice is never going to match the state it was when Attractions albums were first recorded so if vocals needed amending why not just get Briana and Kitten ( and Davey)...

Re: New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums!!

"Unprecedented new release" - the word "new" is interesting. A reissue of a classic album, even in a SDE wouldn't normally be described as "new" and "unprecedented". On the other hand - if we got a SDE that included all the original demos plus tons of studio t...

Re: Alternate "My Aim is True" w/ Attractions ?

I've never doubted that tracks were recorded in Cornwall that day, but I've always doubted than an album was seriously intended. It sounds like one of Jake's crazy promotional gimmicks, but I doubt that EC would have ever gone along with the idea (unless by some miracle the performances were absolut...

Re: Ross McManus

I wouldn't put any stock in the spelling of the quote from the "unspecified source". The record itself is credited to Day Costello. Going through the scrapbook at the end of UM&DI indicates EC's dad used "Ross McManus" professionally in Liverpool (e.g., the Ross McManus Quin...

I didn't realize he used the McManus (as opposed to MacManus) spelling professionally. Or maybe that's just a misspelling... I don't think anyone has ever addressed this in this thread, but Ross was actually named "McManus" at birth ("Ronald Patrick McManus" is on his birth cert...

I endorse the above timeline - which hopefully will get some more dates as research continues. "Sounds" ran a feature (by Chas de Whalley) in November 1976 - about Nick and Clover in the studio. I'm trying to get a hold of that article, as it probably has some relation to Jake's idea to pa...

I'm not entirely sure what the setlist in that article is supposed to be (and he's obviously not going to play Veronica twice), but this is what he actually played in Sydney - I think this is the correct order, it's certainly all the actual songs: Muriel on Main Beach Shipbuilding Accidents Will Hap...

First three songs: Accidents Will Happen Brilliant Mistake Possession Elvis in fine voice. I think I prefer the Imposter's version of "Come the Meantimes" by far ... and I lean towards their version of "Viceroy's Row" as well. http://planetriker.org/trainspotting/23aprilsign.jpg ...

What? No cheers of rejoicing from the Melbournites? :) I don't know how much publicity the Adelaide show received - but the Sydney show was 90% sold out within a few hours - so I'm not sure what went wrong in Adelaide. I don't think the promoter only promoted in Sydney and forget about Adelaide.

The album entered the UK chart at number 28 today which is Elvis' highest chart position since the number 17 position When I Was Cruel reached in 2002. It was at 21 in the midweek chart and I guess it will disappear next week. Called in to HMV Uxbridge today - no sign of it anywhere. Number 40 in t...

Re: 40 DAYS OF ELVIS COSTELLO: A Countdown To WISE UP GHOST

Costello is not above making a dick joke in his lyrics. (I don't find it cringe-inducing in the sense of it being a bad lyric; maybe I do in the sense of it being an effective "revenge" on that soldier he quarreled with, but for me the fact that it is paired with such a tender and compass...
